In many ways it's a bog-standard, Ubisofty open world game by the makers of Just Cause, but they nail the Mad Max world pretty well, including the beguiling and inventive language.

I also love the progression, starting from nothing and slowly putting together a new supercar, the Magnum Opus. The melee combat is lifted from Batman Arkham I think, and it's simple but satisfying. Ammo is scarce and the shotgun only works at short range, so it's not a shootfest. The driving also feels good.

I finished it in just over 50 hours, doing just about everything but the death run races. It was a fun trip, but repetitive. The main story missions are only about 10 hours long, not even that. It's not an RPG, so the main gameplay loop of finding scavenging locations, taking out scarecrows and snipers, breaking up camps, etc. is just repeated over and over with little motivation and no plot development. I still enjoyed it, but I was more than ready to finish the game at the end.

The other thing is that damn, the Mad Max world is just bleak. It's one of the most hopeless post-apocalyptic scenarios of all.
