1 star because other games built upon this game that started the franchise and is the most historically important platformer? Genius!
@Zuheide get his ass
with all due respect, i beg to differ. super mario bros. is not only one of my favorite mario games, but one of my favorite platformers, and one of my favorite games of all time.
it may have aged in a way that most other mario games never will, sure. but its minimalism, its ability to pare down the side-scrolling platformer to its very essence and to yet craft such masterful design out of it appeals to me far more than the gimmick-filled levels of the newer 2d mario games.

Absolutely based game, absolutely unbased opinion.
Nothing wrong with appreciating how something started!
nah
I mean I still like it, you have to cut it some slack it was a 2D platformer on the NES back in 1985 of course its not gonna be as good as the Mario's released now

Mario sucks sorry guys
@mellorine You should be put in a jail for enjoying this game
@SuperSpeedRaven The only based this game is is based on a bad idea
@TremiRodomi You are wrong for appreciating how something started
@Lightblade No slack
@mellorine Don't even get me started on lost levels
I feel like anyone who gives Super Mario Bros. 1 star needs to go back and play like, Friday the 13th for NES, or Bubsy 3d, or just about any movie tie-in game from the ps2 era, to gain some perspective.
@Hot_Anarcocoa You need to go read James and the Giant Peach and come back when you learn some manners
I love this video game
@SoniqueBaianor I love the idea that one day you will no longer be able to torment me with your hateful words
pickle rick is in the house tonight
pickle rick is gonna have a good time

this review inspired me to go back and replay the game - it's been at least a month. thanks!
a warpless playthrough of this game is still a really good time. it's amazing just how much this game excels in in mechanical conveyance for 1985 standards, and how there's a very subtle risk versus reward mentality behind the powered up states that in my opinion are very rarely explored again in the series.
if you don't believe me, try doing a small fire mario run! how the risks and rewards are inverted makes you realize that being small sometimes has its advantages.
did you know that you can kick a koopa shell into a bullet bill in 5-3 to defeat it, but the reappearing ones shot from bill blasters are immune to it? it's a bit of clever design on their part to make sure that people can't grind for extra lives in moments like 8-2.

This game inspired me to smush Mario between my toes and humiliate him for his pleasure
