This game disappointed me in a bunch of ways. It's definitely the most well produced thing of its type, that type being the whole SCP theming, but it falls short in a few key important areas that I hope are improved in the sequel.

The graphics are beautiful. I highly recommend you play this game with an RTX card and RTX enabled cause the game is BEAUTIFUL with both enabled. The brutalist architecture of The Oldest House combined with all the hyper-realistic detailed textures make it a real treat to see along with all the neat particle and screen effects for the enemies. The sound is equally complimentary and has a lot of atmospheric touches and the soundtrack for fights, instead of being loud, is a bassy thumping ominous thing which makes some encounters a bit tense. The atmosphere and the lore for the game is absolutely incredible. There's REAMS of lore to find and all of it is written really well. There's a really weird surreal vibe through all of it for good reason and you're just another unexplained anomaly at the top of a giant pile of weird shit going on. Sometimes though I wish they leaned even harder on some of the otherworldly elements and made it even weirder cause the game still feels slightly grounded. I wanted more insane wacky crap to happen and for things to remain unexplained even more. The lore and the background sells it but I wish the player could have witnessed it.

Where it falls short is the gameplay and the story. Gameplay is ok and gets a bit tedious at times. There's a decent amount of enemy variety but at some point you're fighting the same enemies multiple times using the same tactics and the game doesn't do too much to mix it up though it throws some curves now and then. The loot system is pretty stupid and you get a lot of junk that you need to keep managing cause your inventory size is tiny. The crafting system isn't very complex or involved and is just very slight menu navigation and barely requires any farming.

The main story of the character is fairly bland and it hurts the whole thing a bit. It builds and builds to a crescendo that suddenly stops with a gigantic THUD with almost no closure for a bunch of plot threads. It seems like Remedy are aiming for a sequel and they might get it but I was fighting a bunch of Hiss waiting for a boss battle at the end and the story just... stops? It was confusing and I expect people who don't read or pick up any of the notes will be extremely disappointed with the story as a whole. I wish there was some resolution to the events that happen. The game gives you a very poor excuse to continue exploring The Oldest House and I was kinda let down by the well constructed buildup to nothing.

Overall, I had a fairly good time but it should have been much better and tighter. The story was very bland with an abrupt end and the gameplay is not good enough to carry it all the way through.
