skill issue, been using a greatsword the whole game

If it was dark souls it would be "challenging" since it isn't it's "not viable" lmao

it all depends on what moveset you put on it. The starting greatsword's moveset doesn't do it any favours (at least to me), but I got a police club (random drop i think so that sucks), and its moveset compliments the greatsword blade way more.

Although I guess idk what you want to classify as a big heavy sword, the moveset being slow, or that it just looks like a big heavy sword with a rapier moveset
