majicbiscuit finished Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge
it's pretty good in the grand scheme of adventure point n' clicks but I feel most of it's puzzles are overly ambiguous even for the genre and much harder than the first game in ways that don't feel fair or good really. there were way too many moments where I felt something should have worked and it turned out it was right but I didn't do it in the exact way the game wanted me to (i.e. used a wrong prompt on the menu to use the item or didn't click on a very small specific pixel to switch an item out for another.) the mid-game especially feels like a slog. the entire map opens up, so it really makes your options triple the scale of the first game, making it a nightmare to try and figure out a cryptic point n' click logic puzzle with what's essentially hundreds of potential solutions. I feel bad comparing it as much to the first game as I am because they clearly had a new vision and wanted to really go all out on map size, puzzle structure and all that, but I truly think it's to the game's detriment.

that said, I don't think it's worth skipping if you liked the first one. not everyone will have the same experience I had and has has just as sharp (and in a lot of cases better) writing and dialogue as the first and other peak Lucas Arts games and when the puzzles click, they're very fun and satisfying! not to mention this version is absolutely the definitive version of it with all the added extras you'd expect! I just think there was too much on the map and puzzle design, the main reason I play these games, for me to truly love it.
