I am decidedly a bigger fan of open-world Mario than linear Mario, and while I enjoyed my time with 3D World enough, it just never quite clicked with me because of a host of small aggravations. Lives still existing, levels requiring full replays to find missed collectibles — all hallmarks of linear Mario games that I just don't have patience for.
