What if Enter the Gungeon, but Side Scroller (Not a bad thing, Gungeon is one of my favorites of all time). The core Gameplay and level/character/enemy design maybe wasn't as good as Gungeon, and obvs the guns and items weren't as creative either, but the progression/unlock system as well as the resource management/consumable items in this game were much better done and more satisfying than Gungeon
