Disney Pixar's Cars is a franchise that I identify as a key part of my childhood. As a child, I used to wish I was Lightning McQueen and quite frankly it has not changed growing up. I remember the excitement I felt receiving this game as a child and booting it up for the first time and how cool it was to finally be able to explore the areas from the movie I had loved so much and put well over 1000 hours into it as a child. Although many are quick to point out that nostalgia blindness is an issue that frequently comes up when reviewing licensed games as personal biases often lead to people being more forgiving of the flaws of a game, I feel that this game is genuinely an exception with the unique charm it has in its world, voice acting, and simplistic yet fun and addicting gameplay. The story while being a bit silly and essentially a watered-down version of the film is enjoyable enough to the extent that it isn't a hindrance and isn't something that needs to be over-analyzed or asks the audience to reflect and think about what they are doing while playing. While the story or gameplay may not be particularly complex the open world of Radiator Springs is magical in bringing to life a form of Americana lost to the ages enhanced by the soundtrack that while small in selection all sound great and don't ever get annoying. Most of the areas from the film can be driven in or explored whether it be through accepting racing challenges or just cruising. The roster of characters available gives access to a cast of fan favorites and unique picks who are all fully voice-acted to bring that little bit of life to moving your character that makes it almost feel as if you are driving with them. This game may not be as enjoyable to those who didn't grow up with the game or film series, but I feel those who want a simple or relaxing game will have a great time with it and for those who grew up with the games or films, please give this game a replay it's sure to take you back to a better time where you had nothing to worry about except bedtime.
