Half a star for the art style, the only good thing about this game.
Genuinely baffled at people calling this a classic. Clunky, imprecise and unresponsive controls, your character takes forever to speed up and can barely steer, jumps are floaty, and one of the worst forced tutorial sections I've ever seen. And underneath all that is what? An extremely basic game. Just collect paint cans and do little QTEs to paint graffiti? I've played better graffiti games and better skating games. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Tony Hawk games had a graffiti function.
And wtf is up with these Jim Crow era depictions of black people??

@TheQuietGamer having "controversial" opinions is what makes you real. A lot of people here are so bothered by what others think that they will try extra hard to like games that have a good reputation and not give a fair chance to those that have a bad one. I think this here is the Ridge Racer syndrome. Some people like it out of nostalgia, others for its aesthetics, and they convince themselves there's something more to this game. And then the rest of the people just fall for its reputation. I'm glad there are people like you, who don't just echo the established narrative.
I've still not played this though I did get to see one of the Japanese bands play live at a local pub that held Japanese nights about 15 years ago.
I genuinely like Ridge Racer 🤣

@FallenGrace you probably mean Ridge Racer Type 4, right? I was talking about the original for PS1, which has horrendous handling and collision models, but I've seen some people here type up entire dissertations on how unique and deep it is. It's just that it looks gorgeous, and so people perform mental gymnastics to convince themselves it has good gameplay.
@molochthagod - I was actually thinking more the psp and RR 6 actually. Never played the original game lol. It's in the backlog...one day.
I was just teasing you a bit but I do understand and agree with the general point you are making aye.

@FallenGrace yeah, I get that you were teasing, it's all good. I'm sure once you play the original, you'll see what I mean.
