A perfectly fine game on its own terms but too mechanically and narratively ephemeral for my taste. I wish it had leaned into the puzzle aspect of its gameplay more. I don't like when games give me the feeling that I'm just completing a mindless digital task for the sake of accessing the next one, and Donut County is like, the most extreme version of that feeling I've ever encountered.

A fun and cute little game, like a miniature Hades you can play in a night, leaning harder into the "dating" elements. It has the classic problem of doing two things and neither of them quite as well as something that focuses on one exclusively--the combat is simple and repetitive, the dating storylines less intense than they could be--but it doesn't overstay its welcome so it's hard to complain. The CWs at the beginning are kind of funny to me since this is probably the most soft-edged tenderqueer game I've ever played, and it sets a certain expectation of drama that the game was never interested in approaching. You end the game by sending the villain to therapy, lol.
