If you're a Resi fan and don't enjoy this game, I'm sorry to say, you have been filtered.

Arguably the most difficult, and definitely the longest of the classic entries, with enemies and obstacles that pose an actual challenge (the zombies rule in this game), Code Veronica is the perfect culmination of the series formulae.

Whereas 2 and 3 slowly began to shift more towards action, Code Veronica shuns this notion and returns the series to its true survival horror roots, with its maze-like level design, head scratching puzzles, gothic European architecture and a shit load of backtracking. Sure, it doesn't have the gorgeous pre-rendered backgrounds from the previous titles, but it more than makes up for this with its stylised early Y2K era graphics (which I'm a huge sucker for) and creative use of its new dynamic, moving camera system, allowing the devs to frame the environments using more interesting and creative angles to help fuel and drive the tension.

It also features the best cast of characters yet seen in a Resi title, with the mad Nazi crossdresser Alfred, the return of Wesker and (the adorable) Steve Burnside.

I don't fuck with people who don't like Steve btw.

Ah shit, I knew it!
Lol. Truthfully, I'm just salty at how bad its reputation is. I get that it's not the most objectively 'fun' game around, but it does a great job of scratching an itch that 2 & 3 don't for me. I also don't understand how people can find it so ugly, I mean c'mon, it's peak early Dreamcast aesthetic!

The thing is I do get the itch, because Code Veronica really gets better when you play it for a second time and you know the amount of bullshit you have to endure. Then, I can see Code Veronica as a p good experiment. I also appreciate the 3D gloomy aesthetic after all, even if I woefully respect the prerendered backgrounds a lot more from an entirely abstract point (especially RE1) and the symbolisms regarding the story are probably the most interesting bit - it is a game with a lot to say in a below-the-carpet manner.

But yeah... I kinda hated my time with it LMFAO but I get why some people love it so much.
Yeah that's absolutely fair! When I first played it back in 2000 it was kind of a hellish experience, but it has grown on me massively through repeat playthroughs over the years. Easily makes my top 3 Resi titles now but I can see how it's not necessarily for everyone. I also love the garish and surrealist design the mansion had in the original too, although my personal preferences lean more towards the REmakes more gothic reimagining. The great thing about the Resi games is there's kinda something out there for everyone's varying tastes :)

Yeah, Steve definitely rules. Wish they would have remade this instead so I could not get filtered.

I think i beat the game by 2011 or so and the only thing that remains in my memory besides the fact that it is fucking amazing, is the fact that the game was really, really hard, guess it is true then. I need to replay ASAP.

Oh, and i like Steve too, maybe in a future remake he can get his deserved redemption with the fans.
I found the game to be mostly a breeze and still didn't like it at all, so I'm gonna have to disagree with you on most of this.

Gotta back you on the Steve point though. He's the only fun character here. FATHEEEEEEEER!
@The_Trash_Man i'd say it's a toss up between this and zero for most challenging of the classic titles. cv mostly so for being able to screw yourself at the first tyrant fight if you're not careful with resources & also failing to leave weapons and items for the chris section. but on repeat playthroughs, or if you're a careful player you can absolutely hoard ammo and herbs and breeze through the end game, for sure.
