This is the best Metroid game of all time and it's not even close. Oh my god. Oh my god. The story is genuinely horrifying and it manifests in the gameplay incredibly well. The movement is the most fun of any that's ever been in a Metroid game and honestly it's one of my favorite movement systems in any game I've played. I loved Fusion as a kid and the things that were brought back from it made me very happy and it was done very well.

Not linear or handholdy at all. I'm pretty sure I sequence broke something in my blind playthrough but I'm not sure yet, but being able to do that is cool. Some of the items are actually pretty hard to find/get to, which is nice. Just every moment of this game is fun. I'm so glad Nintendo is still making stuff like this.
