First, a question. What's a "true" DOOM game?

While many consider DOOM 2016 as a return to form, the game clearly is crafted from a different direction. Enemy placement is de-emphasized and exploration is a lot more linear. Horror, on the other hand, has taken a back seat in contrast to the classics.

What I'm trying to say is, DOOM has always tried to reinvent itself. From classic, 64. 3 and Eternal, each and every game in this franchise has always felt different after its second iteration. I'm glad that DOOM is able to experiment and alienate its fanbase for the sake of a fresh experience.
