made me full on sob at the ending, something that no other piece of media has made me do ever. simply amazing

After I didn't like Hollow Knight, I thought metroidvanias just weren't for me, but this game showed me otherwise. The mechanics of the game work greatly together, and allow for a lot of freedom on top of a very intuitive grappling hook mechanic. This game falls flat on its story as it's nothing special, and the difficulty fluctuates greatly from start to finish which can be jarring during longer playsessions, but overall a great game.

SPOILER FREE
Persona 5 Royal is far from a perfect game, but the impact it had on me while playing is what makes me think of it so highly. Everything about it comes together so cohesively that it became impossible for me to not get immersed quickly and become invested in each Phantom Thief. Although the plot and its characters are far from complex, they still have arcs that play out beautifully, and this goes doubly for the Royal characters (Kasumi, Maruki, and the expansion on Akechi's character). It was an amazing experience, and that's even without talking about the killer soundtrack and surprisingly fluid combat. Although this game has its negatives, particularly in its tertiary characters and pacing in some areas of the game, I can't give P5R a lower rating. It's simply great.
