wreith commented on wreith's list Weird Niche Games I Need To Play But Keep Forgetting To
@Tokkori Yo! I'd completely forgotten I'd written that comment but thanks for reaching out, and thanks for liking the list! Lemme reply to your answers real quick:

1. When it comes to this specific list, it seems like every single entry found it's way here through vastly different reason. Quite a few are through Backloggd, either by: appearing as a popular review on the homepage, appearing in a list, or seemingly appearing in so many random places that it peaks my curiosity. The rest are through random recommendations either from: Steam, a friend, and even YT on occasion. Sometimes I also remember a game I saw years ago that I never got around to getting, so I add that too.

When it comes to the horror list, a lot of them found their way onto the list the same way these games did - recommendations or appearing on Backloggd. Quite a few were found by browsing for horror on legal websites with legal games downloads, but an eye-watering amount of games came from two Sporcle picture quizzes by one dude that had like +80 games I'd never heard of before? I felt like I was mining for copper and found diamonds.

2. I see what you mean. I've found after talking with friends for recommendations that the threshold for what classifies as horror is very subjective. I have a friend who will die on the hill that BioShock is a very scary horror game, whereas I think it's a action RPG with dark settings - same with Bloodborne - so I understand why you put the double title in. Saves a lot of headaches. I'm also 100% with you when it comes to less violent / psychological games being horror. My fav horror game is actually Silent Hill 2, and while it's not typically gorey, there is one moment that filled me with more abject shock, disgust, and discomfort than all the gore in the Dead Space games combined (no hate to DS ofc).

3. Thank you! Like you are with RPGM, I love 90's-00's horror, especially on the PS2. I'm a big fan of quite a few thing from this era, but I love stuff with a very thick atmosphere. I also love stuff that manages to scare me while avoiding jumpscares or other (what I consider to be) cheap tactics. I recently finished the first Fatal Frame, and it's quickly overtaken P.T. to become one of my top 3 horror games alongside RE4 and SH2 solely because it had an amazing atmosphere and was genuinely scary (playing Fatal Frame 2 now so we'll see if it's better or not). I won't lie, I don't feel 100% comfortable posting my Google spreadsheet onto the internet, so is there some other way we could link our findings without posting them to Backloggd dot com? Maybe discord?

Anyway yea, I'm looking forward to sharing our findings!
