Resident Evil Gaiden

released on May 21, 2001

Resident Evil Gaiden is a Resident Evil game for the Game Boy Color. It is non-canon, as its plot is contradicted by the main series in key parts and its events are ignored. The game features three playable characters and consists of exploring areas, collecting items and combating enemies in the process. Unlike previous entries in the series, Resident Evil Gaiden assumes a top-down perspective for the environment portions that, upon approaching an enemy, changes to a first-person combat mode with a reticle constantly moving to the left and right. To attack, the player has to press the action button while the reticle is in range of the enemy.

I dunno I liked it as a kid. It's not good though

Makes the writing of the original Resident Evil look like a fucking masterpiece. The combat system has some pretty neat ideas, but it ultimately ruined by the repetitive structure and enemy placements.

o jogo até tem uma estética bonitinha mas o combate é ridículo pelo amor, taquei o cheat de munição infinita pra zerar essa bomba, nunca mais quero ver na minha frente.

I think the combat system is really unique and fun to play. Timing your hits just right feels great. I like exploring the ship, it does the RE style of finding items and unlocking new areas pretty well.

It has a lot of questionable design choices though, and the game almost feels like it wants you to savescum the hell out of it and play it like it's metal gear solid because holyshittheressomanyzombies. Encounters are draining and the best option is oftentimes just tanking hits hard, making the resource management feel not nearly as satisfying as the console titles it's trying to emulate.

Overall it's pretty okay as the novelty it is, but I see why many got fed up with it.

O conceito é interessante, já o resto...

really fun game plays pretty much how I thought a 2d RE game would play
unfortunately the games kinda ruined by the fact you get like no ammo, i spent half the game using only the knife and late game spams boss fights that force you to use guns so you have to just save ammo and tank hits to travel anywhere, thankfully the game gives you way too much healing more than you realistically need so tanking hits is very easy but its still pretty lame
I still enjoyed the game a lot but the issues are pretty sad
