Wasted potential is the most I can say about this game. The art style is good and the ending spam concept is, while executed poorly, intriguing. The writing is pretty piss poor and felt shallow. The fourth wall breaking felt extremely forced and tried its hardest to be like Undertale, like almost to a T. Maybe if the dev spent more time on the game then grooming children, this could have been much better.

Guide stereotypical but loveable RPG characters through different timelines to find them a happy ending.

A very short and fun little adventure, starring cute, loveable characters. The puzzle of trying to get a good ending was pretty interesting, and I really enjoyed trying to figure out just the right combination.
Honestly, this game feels like a REALLY good dream that you wake up from right at the conclusion. Just the perfect dream, with the perfect end, where you wake up with a single tear in your eye. Yeah. There's really no reason not to play this, there's hardly a price to speak of.

The experience is worth the money. Totally try this one.

Delightfully drawn and effortlessly charming throughout both the puzzle-based choose-your-own-adventure layer and the meta-commentary on storytelling, reality, and fandom layer, but I think the game is bugged. You see, it flags the Maiden route where you get captured by the demon overlord as a "Bad Ending" despite the fact that she is obviously hot. Does anyone know how to fix this??????

EDIT: The creator of this game, nomnomnami, has been involved in a scandal where it was revealed that she was in an online romantic relationship with a minor. While I do not feel it is necessary to punish her more than she already has been, I do think that people should be aware of the situation. You can read the associated documents explaining the situation here -> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DTaVVam0CYZoAoToSAcZbkgUqYMy4mb_zF8yShA-kcw/edit

A "Pick your own adventure" kind of Visual Novel, each branch the game offers has a duration of around 2 minutes, so it's a short game that doesn't burn you out for trying all the possible outcomes, which are a requirement to watch the True Ending and put the end to the whole story, because of that fact and the length of the game, I totally recommend going for the 100% to everyone who gives this game a try.

I liked this game when just going through the bad endings, I think the idea of changing character's personalities based on endings is interesting and fun, but I think once the meta stuff is introduced it loses me. Most of the true endings feel like they come out of nowhere or are just unsatisfying, both within the story and the theater itself. Some of the language feels kinda off for the story? I don't know how to describe it but hearing characters talk about "funny little guys" and "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN MY CASTLE" just feels odd? Overall it's an alright game premise, with a basic story and a mediocre ending.

Bad End Theater's whole gimmick is about "bad endings". All the choices you make, no matter how many, will always lead to some kind of tragic end for each character.

Bad End Theater makes it immediately apparent that its more or less a puzzle game: you play through each character's story to find out their traits, and by manipulating those traits, you can influence how another character's story is affected. It feels pretty clever, and it makes it more satisfying to try to get the ending you desire. It also keeps the stories feeling interconnected with each other.

My initial motivation while playing was to get a happy ending, or least bad ending, but the game makes it pretty clear that every ending here will be tragic. So, my attention turned towards trying to get all endings. As someone who's not that fond of tragic endings and gets attached to characters easily, the game managed to keep me engaged and encouraged to still pursue every ending possible and see what lies after that.

SPOILER TERRITORY:
Once you find all "true endings" and face Tragedy, it becomes clear there's a meta-narrative going on. It's sweet, I think: to do what you actually want to do, instead of blindly following what "role" others give you. This is a common theme in the four character's stories, each of whom are forced to do their given roles in some way or another without consideration of their own ambitions and feelings, lest they want to suffer the consequences of doing so. The same is true for the narrator of the game, TRAGEDY, who suffered from trying to chase their dreams, alongside their lover.

Yet, the real "true end" for everyone, is not a tragedy they face in the theater, but rather being true to themselves. And that's what this game is really trying to tell you, that you can truly reach your happy ending by being who YOU want to be, by doing what YOU want to do.

Overall, this is a pretty messy review lol, but I wholeheartedly recommend this game. It's short, its got cute art, the story's nice, and Underling's awesome.

It really does a ton of stuff I do not like but getting into the gameplay cycle was admittedly quite fun, and I respect it for taking plenty of risks. The risks though seem to endanger deliberated moods in the work for the sake of some cheeky, clunky humor. The art is easy to appreciate though and the songs are solid, with a few still stuck on my mind. It's unreal how many people didn't try getting all the endings, or skipped the credits, to the point where i feel it isn't fair to the developer.

There is no better word to describe this game other than "Charming". This game is just so incredibly charming and I mean that in the best possible way.

Everything from the visuals to the music is so... charming! That is the only word that comes to mind! And it's almost kind of funny when you combine it with the pretty dark nature of what this game is about.

If I did have one criticism toward the game it would be... ironically considering the name of the game, the ending. It's not awful or anything, but it just kind of comes out of nowhere and isn't very satisfying (though I will say that the final scene does kind of makeup for the lackluster climax).

It's crazy the kinds attention you can pull with a couple of cutsy chibi designs and some words about them feeling really really sad sometimes

Bad End Theater is a pleasant little trip of a game built around an extremely fun central mechanic that rewards taking wrong paths and bad endings to discover new facts that open up new paths. I guess it's not the first game in the world to do something to this extent but I feel the game's brevity and density of webs makes the process a lot more fun than the exhaustion it could create on a larger scale. The way different routes interact with each other creates almost a weird puzzle game scenario, where you replay one route to mess with a different route and slowly thread the needle through the minefield of bad ends to the one possible theoretical good ending waiting at the end.

The story itself is... okay I'm gonna be real the story is lame. It's going for a cutsy fairy tale vibe but the way the story randomly and abruptly juts from one melodramatic end to another is... it feels like hurt/comfort fanfiction for a base property that doesn't exist, and without that built trust and investment it just kinda feels dumb. I do want these lovable idiots to find their happy ending, but god damn there are only so many "and you feel so miserable and sad and bitter forever and ever and ever :(((((("s that I can sit through.

Still, it's a short creative game for what it is, and I'd fuckin love to see the dev try their shot at a game with this kinda framing structure and with this sort of charming presentation that has a, uh, real story.

Also the true ending is straight up nonsense, actual honest to god Five Nights tier lore gibberish.

this is what happens when ur mean to lesbians

Really cute GAME. Likeable characters, funny writing & gorgeous art.

Just a bummer about the drama w. the creator nomnomyami. She had a relationship w. a minor, which is confirmed.

So buying this product will support a nonce, which gives a bad taste.

Beautiful meta-narrative about chasing what you actually want to do instead of blindly doing what people think you should do, featuring lesbians and a silly guy who wants to quit his job just as bad as I do mine.

For as dark as its Bad Ends can get, this is a really charming and sweet meta-puzzle game!

Puzzle game disguised as a visual novel, not a lot of replay value but definitely worth the playthrough. Great characters and art, makes me nostalgic for something that doesn't exist.

Very cute, and the ending is very sweet. I love the art style and the character designs add to the adorable aesthetic very well.

Ultimately it is very short, and there isn't a lot of depth, but it's a pleasant time if you're wanting something to keep you entertained for a few hours.

Super cute art! More of a puzzler then a VN. Cute Lesbians!

A technically competent but utterly shallow vn with a trial and error gimmick. Story wise it just reeks of TV tropes with the story "subverting tropes" in the most shallow way like what if demons good and what if 4th wall break. It has a cute art style and a cite ending but is short and shallow as is.

Short and simple game with great artwork to go along with the story. Nothing mindblowing, but worth a play if it looks interesting to you.
