Such a wonderful story about love and friendship and kindness and empathy. I went in expecting a bloody murder mystery but came out with a love for my friends and family even stronger than it was before.

what a ride.. idk what to say tbh i really loved the story, the characters (rena is my fave), the soundtrack.. ^_^ but i think some parts were really long and boring, esp during the last episode
ngl i snooked so many times.. the pacing can be really awful
anyway my fav chapters were ch5 and 6, it was so peak.
i also loved ch3 very much, satoko's story made me feel kinda emotional ngl

Since this entry contains Chapters 1 to 4, I'm gonna review them individually (with as little spoilers as possible) and add a summary for the bundle itself after all of them to sum up my thoughts on it as a whole.
Note: you can also find these reviews submitted individually in the respective chapters' pages.

---[Higurashi Ch. 1 ~ Onikakushi]---
Score: 9/10
Considering this chapter is free on Steam, if I didn't have the rest of Higurashi in my possession already this would have sold me on the entire thing. Great start, great presentation of the whole premise, I love the characters and the SoL content. After the first half finishes this turns into one of the best experiences I've had in this medium so that really means something. Overall, a really good experience and a great start, setting the mysteries you'll want to unravel from here onwards.

---[Higurashi Ch. 2 ~ Watanagashi]---
Score: 9/10
Even though it's still a really enjoyable chapter, it didn't hit nearly as hard as Chapter 1 did. The Slice of Life content is still really good and entertaining and so is the more serious and eerie stuff, but it lacked impact compared to Chapter 1 (it may not be fair to compare it as much but oh well). Considering giving it a 8 due to the weird pacing at times and the lack of impact, but it still deserves a 9. Still great with the introduction of new characters and setting up the mystery even further.

---[Higurashi Ch. 3 ~ Tatarigoroshi]---
Score: 10/10
This is so far the peak of Higurashi, this whole chapter is amazing from start to finish, Satoko went from being my least favourite main character to one of my favourite characters overall. A specific optional tip in Day 7 made me die inside a bit, which is the only time this game had this kind of impact on me. The second half of this chapter is just perfectly written and crafted, Keiichi really shows how good of a MC he can be, and the entire ending of this left me in awe. If it does get better than this, I'm in for a ride.

---[Higurashi Ch. 4 ~ Himatsubushi]---
Score: 8/10
I don't really have much to say about this, to be completely honest. It gave more mystery to some existing unknowns and it was a nice change of pace from the previous three chapters. Ooishi and the MC really shine here, but as much as I like this chapter, giving it a 9/10 would be unfair to the other three, as this one really shows it's a bonus chapter at times (plus it's quite short compared to the rest). Still worth it and a great time regardless.

---[Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Question Arcs)]---
Score: 9/10
Definitely a solid read that has captured my attention completely, as I love both sides/natures of what it has to offer. If it gets better than this, sign me in for the Answers Arcs (which I'm probably starting soon enough).

Played the Steam version but using 2002 makes life easier lmao

it's a... pretty long vn and takes alot of time for it to piece things together, but when it does, it is excellently written

Phenomenal. Visual Novel Mystery and Horror at its finest.

Rating every chapter would take too long, but this game has an incredible atmosphere, story, and cast.

Lo que al principio parecía una historia de terror termina hablando de la importancia de la amistad y de hablar con la gente que te importa para resolver tus problemas, no sé que más podéis pedir.

Wouldn't really be able to rate every ch individually so this is for the entire thing I thought it was very epic.

i love everything about this

great story overall but i want to draw attention to the fact that this is like the best atmosphere i've seen in any work of ficiton period, it's really hard to describe other than just saying "Higurashi atmosphere" cause of how unique its blend of horror and small town life is. Ryukishi doing this with poorly drawn sprites that clash with their stock photo backgrounds makes it even more impressive. There are so many times where I'll be doing something and I'll just think "wow this reminds me of something in Higurashi" cause of just how wide this game spreads its net and how well it manages to preserve its unique atmosphere the entire time. It definitely has some dips and peaks here and there but the entire journey of Higurashi as a whole is a masterpiece.

THIS GAME WAS FIRE HOW TF I FORGOT ABOUT THIS GAME, THE WERE TRAUMATIZIGN ME ALSO FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH YANDERE ANIME GIRL

não dá pra descrever em palavras a história, suspense, terror, ansiedade que esse jogo dá conforme você vai lendo, é simplesmente muito mas muito bom

the questions arcs are good enough. the chapters were good but nothing peak, ch3 honestly saved this shit. However they do their purpose well, serving multiple questions that seem impossible to solve. overall, an amazing experience

Overall, recommended for those into VNs. 9/10, 4.5/5

ive loved this series for a LONG, long time now; i found it through the anime, way back when i was still a kid in elementary school, way too young to really understand the story it was trying to tell and largely into it because "oo scary blood cool !!!"

revisiting it as an adult, and reading the games subsequently, was the best possible decision. it + umineko share the same space in my heart. i cannot choose between them theyre both incredible. augh.

This is a very long visual novel, expect to spend a couple of months reading the question arcs.
This novel is a horror murder mystery. The first four arcs give you all the mysteries and the last four arcs answer them. I recommend trying to formulate theories and share them with friends. It makes the experience much more interesting.

(question arcs)
i have really complicated feelings on this so far. i think it definitely deserves the hype it gets, the characters are amazingly written and the mystery is really gripping but (say the line bart) it was really bogged down by the pacing. looking back on it so far i cant really imagine the story being trimmed that much without it losing a lot of its impact but its such a massive slog in the moment that it makes me really hesitant to recommend it to anyone. still even though ive had huge parts of the answer arcs spoiled already im excited to see what they have in store

Quintessential Visual Novel
