I actually think this game is better than SC4, Bloodlines, 1, and pretty much all classicvanias except for Rondo of Blood. This game can be awful for new comers, but once you play it again, you start to master it and get so much better at it that the difficulty just decreases tremendously. That combined with the amazing checkpoint stages and short stages make this game easily one of the best classivanias ever made.

Dracula X is a whiff, if I'm being honest. I understand that its status as a compromised pseudo-port of Rondo of Blood meant it wasn't going to be on that game's level, but I didn't expect something so middling. This feels like it was handed over to the GB team (not that I've checked), with the same technical and design sloppiness that permeated those games. There are a few novel ideas which I would have liked to see implemented in better Castlevania games, such as the natural means by which the first alternate level is accessed, but I can't say they were enough to create an overall positive impression.

The fundamentals are there, so its not dreadful, just don't feel too bad using save states to get past some of the bullshit level and enemy design. That final boss can fuck right off.

Completed on the Castlevania Advance collection with liberal use of the rewind feature.

Yeah this is just extremely mid Castlevania. Not much more to say really. Would really like to play Rondo of Blood and compare at some point.

honestly not as bad as i'd expected but it's really not a good game. at least it's short though

this somehow lives rent free in my head bc of this particular version of the level 1 theme even though i've never played it past said level.

It's one of those games that you should just kind of save state through just to experience the aesthetic.

You're only going to live so long. Don't spend your time getting good at this game. Get good at Rondo of Blood or Bloodlines. Way cooler games.

This game sucks ass and it's title sounds likes porn parody

the shittiest entry in the series

rondo of blood but they forgot to make it good

i probably could try and like sit down and beat this but i just dont really care enough because everything about this game just feels like a shitty disney platformer from this era ui included

Tbh aside from some dickheaded enemy placements and the final boss room, didn't think this was all that bad. No flippy whip or whip upgrades felt weird tho.

QUE PORRA DE LEVEL DESIGN É ESSE????

just play rondo of blood.

Maria Renard fucking slays.

Definitely one of the more fun Castlevanias. Didn't get the "key" ending. Now to play Rondo...

this game is scary, but not bad.

I don't hate this because it's not Rondo. I hate it because its freaking horsecrap. The visuals are dull, the level design is uninspired, and the enemy placement is some of the worst I've ever seen in a video game. Just play Rondo of Blood.

Not as good as Rondo of Blood but it comes pretty close. The music and grpahics are still fantastic with fun gameplay. The difficulty can be frustrating but with pracitce this game becomes rather easy. Its short length does hinder the overall experience a tad, but it is far from a bad castlevania game and its one of the stronger action games on the Snes.

Really weird game design here, it's not as difficult as it is annoying and removing the floor during Dracula's fight is incredibly cheap. Pretty bad overall

While the graphics are arguably better than Super Castlevania IV, the combat in this is clunky as all hell and hard to master. The monster placement was more frustrating than in IV, with Knight's able to poke you from above with spears through floors (seriously, one time a knight was placed so haphazardly that it made it almost impossible to pass). The game also feels very short for a mainline release. This was definitely a step down from IV, hopefully later entries will be better.
