Kick-ass arcade-style action with controls similar to Resident Evil. Don't get it twisted, Gungrave plays unlike anything I have before, but its design sensibilities harken back to a more experimental - and flat-out more fun - game design found within the middle-shelf market at the time.
It's a lie to say "we don't get games like these, anymore" seeing a new Gungrave released last year, but we could use a re-invention of the 3rd-person-shooter and Gungrave has some neat ideas up its sleeve I havent seen much of anywhere else.
Just make sure if you're booting this up today that you have either a controller with dedicated turbo support or run this in an emulator, because it isn't worth breaking your hand over a game that's damn cool besides the carpel tunnel infliction.

Please bring back killing the final boss by pressing a button in a cutscene...... game itself is mindless at its worst but average at its best, the presentation and cutscenes are where it shines but a lot of the moment to moment gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. It took me just under 90 minutes to beat so I can't be that upset.
As far as action games go, Gungrave isn't the best. It holds its arcade roots to heart as it presents a short shooting gallery every level that adds up to a short 3 hour long playthrough. Gameplay mechanics don't evolve or expand and the story is meandering and shallow. However, its style, length and energetic gameplay make it a fun guilty pleasure to revisit.
Unique gameplay and control system that makes you feel like a moving turret but the cool animations prevent this from feeling too clunky. Awesome setpieces here and there and short enough as to prevent the gameplay from getting stale. I really love the style of this too, made me check out the anime which I ditched after a few episodes but it's cool that it exists.
