A very charming and addicting video game! I've had this game for years, but being 9 years old with little patience and not having a good grasp on the English language, it was of course not going to go very well. But now I could retry it with the gifts of maturity.
I really like the atmosphere of the game. A charming little town where Professor Layton and Luke have come to solve an inheritance but then get stuck and have to solve puzzles that every villager keeps giving them, meanwhile they come across a murder and other peculiar characters. Puzzles themselves are fun and often take a lot of thought. They can be either very short or they can be very tough. The puzzles I did the best were the ones where math is involved. My least favourite ones were the one that required just a bit more time to read (i.e. "How many mice do you have after 8 months?" Answer: Just 1, since you only bought one mouse), because they were either too easy or just frustrating.
I do have a problem with the story, namely how it is all revealed. We eventually learn that the town consists of all robots which, while outlandish, I'm willing to accept is part of the story. The problem is that all other information comes in an endless stream while Layton and Luke are climbing the tower. Layton just suddenly knows how to put all the pieces and it is just talked through while all the puzzles in the final tower are a little easier than the rest of the game. It is at this point that the game deflates a little.
All in all, highly recommended! I am looking forward to playing the rest of the series.

It's cute and the riddles are either really smart or really dumb, just like riddles usually are. One stumped me for like a day until my friend told me the answer, which I could've sworn I'd tried before. Alas. Still, it's a very charming game and Layton's relationship with Luke is very cute. Some of the music is also really pretty, and I like the atmosphere of the village at night. It's pleasant.
I played through it with my friend and we had a fun time brainstorming answers to riddles and imitating Layton and Luke's accents. If you like puzzles at all, I'd recommend it.
7/10 I wish Layton was my real dad

First time playing a Professor Layton game, and was pleasantly surprised at how difficult some of the puzzles could get. They're also very fun and have a pretty consistent quality for how many there are!
Big fan of the titular 'Curious Village' as well. The different locales and villagers are quirky and memorable, and adds an air of mystery to the game, making for a pretty unique atmosphere. I love that they fit the villagers pushing random puzzles onto you in the story lol
