A DLC with some sort of Survival Horror game mode.

It happens in an abandoned Soviet base, in which Lara's enemies are infected men (they aren't zombies like a lot of people think). These guys might not see well, but they can hear you if you are not careful enough, so hiding is not always the key to running away from them, in case they spot you.

We have to deactivate three towers and have a secondary objective of releasing remnants captured by Trinity.

Besides the lack of creativity on Crystal Dynamics' part, I liked this game mode, it is challenging and requires some exploration to find weapons, materials, documents, and that kind of stuff.

Somewhat funny that despite being DLC, this actually works pretty well as a demo for the main game. It's a short, self-contained story that has the action and puzzle-solving elements that make up the main game, and a handful of collectibles to find.

It's a decent enough ride. Not sure I'd want to pay for it separately, but in the 20th anniversary bundle it's something fun to do after beating the main game.

A nice bonus little DLC level for Rise. It's basically a zombie level, and I do like my zombies. Stealth is basically not an option, the density and respawn rates of the enemies make sure of it, you're gonna get spotted no matter what. Although this was annoying at first, once I learned to ditch the sneaky approach and run around crazy hipfiring everything, it got a lot more fun. Theres also some randomly generated puzzles that I found entertaining enough. Going for all the trophies was also pretty manageable, completing it without dying may sound tough but if you equip the right cards its easily doable. Overall a good time, not something you'll remember fondly, but if you want more Rise you'll have a good time.

Rating - 75/100

DLC Completion #8 of 2022

Honestly, it starts off strong, and then the last section really brings it down with relentless unending enemies and objectives you have to hunt down while avoiding them. They will swarm you, making it very hard to place shots. Glad to have gotten this in the 20-Year Celebration.

I've got to admit, I completely forgot that this even existed! It's so damn small and forgetful that it's very easy to completely miss this or even struggle to remember ever playing it.

...and they charged money for this!

Cold Darkness Awakened adds an extra level to RotR where Lara explores a chemical factory from which a mysterious gas is being released into the air, gas which makes all men who breathe it become deranged and aggressive. Yes, it's a zombie level.

The game actually sets you up for failure by suggesting you take things slow and stealthily -- this is actually the worst thing you can do to yourself, since the spawn mechanics are very agressive and every now and then a horde of zombies is sent your way, telepathically guided. No, just run and gun everything you can as soon as you get your hands on a firearm. You'll do much better.

Once it gets going, though, this level is enjoyable. There's many ways to traverse the area, with the game leaving the order of objectives up to you, and within the chemical plants Lara has to infiltrate, there are some procedural puzzles built atop an interesting framework that has you identifying components of the plant and their connections.
