Reviews from

in the past

This review is for the current Steam version of Arkham Asylum.

I am so tired of these dumbass pointless remasters. I was able to run this game on high settings in 2009, but now my laptop is struggling to even run medium settings at a stable framerate. Tf? This is a 15-year-old game! If you wanna remaster something, get a game from the 90s that is hard to run on modern hardware and that probably has complicated controls. Or get a console port from the early 00s, back when PC was treated like a second-class platform. The original release of Arkham Asylum was fine! Last time I checked it still ran with no issues on modern systems! And why wouldn't it? 2009 wasn't that long ago. There are plenty of older games that really require a remaster. Or, if you just absolutely have to remaster this, at least add the ability to launch the original version like they did with Bioshock or the recent Quake remaster. But no, that is too much to ask for apparently. Fuck your nostalgia, play this game with changed graphics and a required online connection! Oh and btw, if you're poor and your cheap laptop can't handle it, fuck you too, we hate poor people here at Warner Bros! Our favorite pastime is to drive around Los Angeles and beat the shit out of homeless people and steal their pennies because that's just how we roll, motherfucker!

And just to make things more annoying, the graphics settings are in the launcher. So I have to keep exiting the game just to find a balance between a tolerable performance and decent-looking graphics. Now, I don't remember if that was the case in the original release, it might've been, but I played Arkham Origins in 2021 and the graphics settings were in the game menu. Since you remastered this game, you could've done the same here (again, if that was not already the case).

You know, at the very least you could've called this version "Batman Arkham Asylum Remastered", not "GOTY", because GOTY is usually the same game just with all the expansions and perhaps some new DLC. I bought this thinking I'd get the original game, just with a bunch of extra content. Instead I'll now have to pirate the original version or play this piece of shit on low settings with blurry textures and shit, and get constantly thrown back into the menu whenever the game decides there was a disconnection, because the video game industry just had to milk this cash cow.

arkham knight - the definition of 'she's mid but i like her'. almost everything about this game is good but god that batmobile does get on your nerves. also jeez the riddler trophies were excessive. but im on a 3rd playthrough. how.

addendum 1/7/23: this game is NOT mid!

arkham city - almost perfect but the gliding feels so slow. literally my only problem with the game. but maybe that's because i didn't bother to finish the vr missions

arkahm asylum - still playbing but good so far. you can really tell that it's the first arkham game though lol

Every boss fight in these games is hot garbage.

Asylum: Best game in the series. Fun story that's otherwise ruined by a mediocre finale. The Killer Croc section is the worst.

City: Late 2000s open world design sucks ass, especially in context of a plot with an explicit time limit. How am I expected to stop Joker when I keep getting interrupted by D-List villains and random people? This is probably my least favorite game in the bunch, but I'm about to replay Knight, so we'll see.

Knight: The tank bits are the most un-Batman part of this Batman game. Wish they did better by Harley, wish there were fewer Riddler trophies, wish Batman didn't handle like an RC car in peanut butter. Great combat mechanics tho, top notch stuff.

Arkham Asylum:
What a great game to lead off the Arkham series, shame it's held down for its terrible final boss.

Arkham City:
They somehow made Batman even better with the sequel. only improvements with everything being amazing.

Arkham Knight:
This game is gorgeous as fuck, the combat is so fluid, the story is solid, even the Batmobile is fun to drive just around the city.

The Arkham Collection is a must have for the type of person who loves third person action games and it's a must play if you love DC comics, personally I ain't a big fan of DC but this trilogy made me love it, sadly it does not include batman origins because this is the rocksteady games not WB montreal. Highly suggest to play them in order, from asylum to city and finally with knight, already reviewed these games. Plus they are very cheap with tons of DLCs.

Arkham games are mad overrated but Harley and Poison Ivy are incredibly hot

Fun collection of games I finally played through. Really liked Arkham Asylum. The other two, not as much, but they were still fun.

I replayed all these games for the first time in a few years within the span of a few weeks. These games were a massive part of my early teenage years, and are still deeply important to me. Next to Kingdom Hearts, this was the first game series I truly obsessed over, knew every single inch of, and kept playing and replaying for years (this especially applies to City), so I may be a bit biased when it comes to my love for them.

Asylum 8/10: top tier atmosphere but things end up getting a bit repetitive because Rockstar were still finding their footing.

City 10/10: My favorite game for many years when I was a kid, and I personally believe it holds up amazingly, the world has so many nooks and crannies filled with references, fun puzzles, and charm. The combat has just enough going on that when I play on hard I am thoroughly enjoying my time, and man that story is just so satisfying to be in the middle of

Knight 8/10: Yes the complaints about the car are valid, it sure is a good thing that it feels amazing to drive in it though. I really enjoy how the side quests feel integrated with the main story and it makes the world feel wonderful to just fly/drive around in. The combat and predator encounters are just bonkers maximalist gimmick-fests, and while I enjoy City's middle ground more, I still think it's a great time.

9/10 Trilogy
Tied with the Hitman World of Assassination trilogy as my favorite video game trilogy ever. Thank you Rocksteady for the years of enjoyment, until next time, when I inevitably replay City.
