The German script and voice acting have some unexpected punch. Tilman Schanen's writing and Joey Cordevin's vocal performance work especially well together in their characterisation of the main character and just in finding nice, sharp, precise lines.
Why am I playing this? What am I doing? There are so many better games. The first one sucked, and so does this.
Blackguards 2 is an improvement over the first game on almost every regard, no change is revolutionary, but it's easier to understand and it grants the player greater freedom to choose what to do next. The story and writing are as good as ever and there are more choices for the player this time around, especially when it comes to character development.
That being said, not every change is welcome. There are fewer locations, characters and missions this time around. Also, a lot of them revolve around fighting waves of heavily armored enemies and interacting with the environment so the strategies that work can get a bit repetitive.
I would recommend Blackguards 2 to anyone who enjoyed the first game and wants more open ended gameplay and closure for the party. I also suggest saving often because the game is a bit unpolished.
