an classic, the 2000s Newgrounds humor and art definitely creates an distinct charm to it that I absolutely adore, the soundtrack is awesome, fun boss battles, the controls feel good and is fun to play when things come together especially in co-op.

outside of that the rest kinda already aged especially compared to other contemporary beat'n ups, pretty much all the characters share the same moveset, weapons doesn't feel too different from one another, the levels don't have enough variety to them, enemies are messy damage sponges later on and some of the difficulty spikes essentially feels like an botched attempt to extend the game's overall playtime which already lasts for too long considering the repetitive combat.

I would love an sequel to this, I just hope I am still alive to see one considering that this game already has 14 years.

I'd like to begin my very first review by talking about my all-time favorite game. Playing this game from beginning to end is a constant thrill. I am still completing many insane-level runs even though I have nearly all of my characters maxed out. With friends, every game gets better, and this one is no exception. The story and controls are both straightforward. Some people might not like that, but when I have an hour to play, I don't want to spend it playing only challenging, serious games. Take my review with a grain of salt because I have a clear prejudice. Despite my bias from when I first played this game, it still captivates new players with its humorous, silly plot and enjoyable gameplay. The game's short gameplay and the lack of online players are other drawbacks. As a result, I have yet to engage in an online PVP game. making it difficult to complete every achievement. Due to the difficulty of completing every achievement and the similarity of boss and enemy fights, some players may find the game monotonous. However, because of the art style, each boss is distinct and entertaining, even in situations where the boss fights are straightforward.

My bias makes this game a 5, although most people will agree that it's a light 4.

I think some would really go as far as to say that Castle Crashers was the breakthrough shit that really put The Behemoth on the map. It's easy to say that itd be their first outing with Alien Hominid, since thats really where the Newgrounds-ey flair they had going on was bursting at the seams(even though theyd keep that same silly energy going forward in like, literally every game theyve done), but I Really like castle crashers and i slightly like it more than battleblock theater purely because of how a beat em up game with a shitload of playable characters just has way more replay value to me than a puzzle platformer that really doesnt feel like there's that much depth to whats going on with your player character or how you approach things other than the level design youre presented with
but this is not a review made to footstool battleblock, i should reiterate that i love all the behemoth games even though i havent played pit people yet
I just think there's something really telling about how this game really feels like it unites both the old and new about The Behemoth's prime. its funny, it does the very simple medieval beat em up premise ina fun way, and theres so many weapons, some fun little side shits to do, and the pets are all perfect babies of course

Really this game is like a portal 2 situation or a full metal alchemist situation to me where its like i can fully feel and acknowledge that i just experienced pretty much a near 10/10 thing but it doesnt sit in something like a top 5 or top 10 favorite games to me. It's just cozily sitting there as one of the best games ever :) besides it has shart jokes!!! I LOVE SHART JOKES YOU GUYS!!
