Even if it is just a stripped down port of Dracula X Chronicles without the 3D remake of Rondo of Blood, it's still a collection of two of the best games of all time.
Had a blast getting the platinum trophy.

Weird that the collection with the best Castlevania games has like the least effort in terms of the actual collection, like its a blown up jpeg and a menu and thats it

Picked it up since I was craving something similar to Blasphemous and was on sale but I lost interest.

first time playing through sotn was this port-- the change in voice actors is sad but the game is incredible regardless

As previously stated, Alucard bad as fuck oh my god.
They shouldn't have changed Dracula's dialogue in SotN.

Rondo of Blood is harder than both Bloodborne and Lies of P combined.

Half a star for changing my beloved dialogues and Alucard voice -.- all my hype shut down the moment I didn't hear "Die monster you don't belong in this world"

Only played SotN

Fantastic game for the time, but a little slow an repetitive for my tastes today.

Só não é 5 estrelas pq tem o lixo do Rondo of Blood 😌

After the Just Okay Bloodstained, I thought I'd play through IGA's actual masterpiece for the 20th time. I also played through it on the luck build for the first time, which lowers all stats to almost nothing, except for luck, which is at 99 + 20.

And it was actually hard again! Harder than the very first time, 26 years ago. Wargs in the opening hallway kill in one hit! The bone tossing skeletons in the Alchemist's Laboratory killed me in three! I saw the Game Over screen more often in that first hour than I had since 1997! It was great!

But high luck also means you find all kinds of cool shit, including rare weapons and armor, and by the time I was at the Outer Wall, I was regular strength again. I did have to rethink how to play, because I'd never played with fists before and my best weapon by far were the jeweled knuckles, so it was still fun.

By the end, I had the Crissagrim and 90% of attacks were just taking a single hit point away, so I pretty much ruled. It was still really fun to play through again, because it always is, even if the new localization and voices are all wrong.

I wish I could put that and the shitty Kenny G credits song back, but I also get that this is pure nostalgia and that those things were objectively awful.

Great collection if you wanna experience the best classicvania and the best moderne castlevania

I will add the games themselves to the log and review them there so as to not bloat this one. Reference them.

Although Rondo and Symphony are both fantastic games, this is such a barebones collection that I feel like I need to dock some points from it. It's basically a title screen menu that drops you into an emulated version of the Dracula X Chronicles unlockable versions of the two games. The other two Castlevania collections are much better overall packages than this is, but it's still an easily accessible way to play these games for someone like me who's too braindead/stubborn to just emulate.

Only a 4.5/5 because I've yet to play Rondo, and I intend to play that too. With regards to SotN, my god what a masterpiece.

Peak Castlevania right now in double.

Cool but not cool enough to do upside down

I bought this entirely for Symphony of the Night. Before this, the only MetroidVania games I had played were Super Metroid and Hollow Knight; the latter of which is one of my favorite games ever. It's crazy to see how close to the golden standard they came from the very beginning. All I'd ever heard about SotN is that it invented a genre and it couldn't be more true. The template is all there in 1997 and I felt the exact same high from exploration-based reward that I did playing Hollow Knight a few years ago. Way ahead of its time. The animation is beautiful, some of the best pixels I've ever seen. When Alucard quickly crouches and you see his long white hair and the fabric of his cape gently follow him, just a second behind... that's some fine detail.

Played to achieve the "good" ending, involving the inverted castle, facing Shaft and Dracula at the end.

I tried Rondo of Blood. Made it to Stage 2. The wolfman boss at the end is an instant no for me. I think I attempted it 12 times and no amount of pattern recognition would have helped me, only luck. This is far back enough that the gameplay is punishing without being any bit fun. Dracula's Revenge is a lot like this in that way. I'll cut my losses and just say hey, I'm very happy to have played Symphony of the Night.

This is my favorite version of SOTN.

Absolutely legendary status. And easily better than Super Metroid.

While the games themselves were not quite my cup of tea, it's nice to have them in a modern, accessible package. If you enjoy these games, this is a good way to experience them.
