i was obsessed with this when i was like 11. didn't understand what a dominatrix was but i knew enough to scroll away from whatever the hell they were doing when my parents walked in the room.

I love this game, it not quite as good as the original: the 3d is antiquated, but in a fun kind of way. It's atmosphere is more "Cool fantasy" than the more dark fantasy of the previous one, but it works in its own way.

Still, dunno which one I prefer more: this one or DK1. DK2 is obv more polished with a bigger budget, but that goofy sprite monsters from DK1 have something to it.

It's a solid base-building strategy with a unique take on the main protagonist - you play as a Dungeon Keeper, a badass red demon observer who can slap worker imps in order to make them faster. The slogan for this game was - it's cool to be bad.

The closest spiritual game at that time was Theme Hospital, I'd guess, so picking between hurting your servants and helping your clients, I obviously chose the first option.

Style, tone and mood - are the main selling points to me here. The mechanics part is alright, though later stages of the game might be tough.
The spiritual successor of this was an Overlord and O2, but it lacked a base-building part, which made it too simple. There is also a Dungeons 3 aka DK3 - but its ugly, "friendly" and generic aesthetic makes me feel absolutely ambivalent about its existence.
