Played this with the 25th Anniversary Update. A good reminder when demos back then used to be this fun. Glad its finally back in the main game.

Some of my favourite things HL1 has to offer, in an adowable bitesized little demo. I always yearn for this gigafacility built out of meringues and drywall. Even as a Valve Oldhead I'm still amazed by how much oldass legacy content I've never heard of can still find ways to bubble to the surface. Anyway dis is nice 😊, touches on what I wish HL1 included more of in the way of secret areas & rewards by interacting with the world. Good-humoured and lovely, just like you dear reader x

Meh. Not really worth your time unless you're a big Half-Life fan. Still a neat bit of history I guess but even for a tech demo its a bit underwhelming.

Very cool demo as it has a unique scenario that got cut from the actual game. I enjoyed it but it feels more like the typical games of its era with the level design rather than Half-Life, so I see why this was cut and revised.

only rating this higher than one star because it has the WON menu which the steam version simply lacks sadly

goddamn the marines are annoying as hell :/

It should be illegal for any demo to be this good... like if you gave me this and I didn't know Half Life I'd be like WTF WHERE CAN I BUY THE FULL GAME

While playing this, I thought "Wow, it's like a mini Half Life! How cool!" then I thought "Gee Matt, really? Almost like it's a demo specifically created to just show off Half Life."

I wish more demos were quick little vertical slices of the game like this. Neat to have Valve officially put this back into the main game.

Underrated tech demo. Side note, for anyone wondering why it seems rushed, it's because it was. The developers that worked on the tech demo were only given 2 weeks to push out a demo, and working with the goldsrc engine at that time was ass.

Yeah, I can see why this chapter got cut from the game.
the arenas suck ass and are just no fun it fight in.

Very little enemy variety too. it's like 90% just HECU grunts.

Also for the majority of the demo you only really have the MP5 with very little ammo supplied and hand-grenades. Half-Life's grenades notoriously suck so being having to use them as your primary weapon is nightmarish.

While it is kinda neat as a piece of Half-Life history, it has no value beyond that.
This getting scrapped from the final game was for the better.

20 minutes worth of half-life
also finished on mmod on hard

God I miss unique content demos.

short and alright, fun to finish with a friend
