somewhat boring DLC it honestly makes Burning Shores feel like a much more complete package in comparison
but anyway honestly the most interesting about this is how slow PlayStation servers are so here's the story I downloaded this on PC thinking well surely there will just be a button in the main menu to jump to this expansion... how silly of me... so instead thought well PlayStation gave way the complete edition a few years back I will just download that to my ps4 and this was telling me it was going to take 4 hours to download the game for reference the pc version took me just over half an hour and it's quite a bit bigger in size so I say fuck that I am not wasting 4 hours of my sunday waiting for this so I go and find a save specifically to play the dlc shoutout to "Aloy Level 29 Save pre-Frozen Wilds DLC" save by Timeout on nexusmod you don't know it but you saved my weekend and as a bit of a joke I leave the ps4 download running to see who finishes first me or the ps4 and guess what it wasn't even close turns out 4 hours is more of an estimate because when i finished this the ps4 still had something like a forth of the way to go i didn't even bother finish the download deleted and i packed up my ps4 even though part of the plan was also to check if the save carries over from my physical base game copy to the digital complete edition because if it didn't that sure would be the cherry on top of this shit cake but i guess we will never know cause i do not care enough

Doesnt justify it's presence, it felt like a rehash of the main story with a new location. The frozen area is gorgeous for what it's worth and I was able to get better weapons because of the expansion. The level requirements are a joke, if a preceding mission has a level requirement of 40 why jump all the way to 50. But going under-leveled for the final mission didn't really feel as difficult as I had thought. The shield weaver outfit never goes wrong even if you are 10 levels below the requirement for the mission.

Waw, this DLC is way better than the base game imo. It's by far the most beautiful and detailed area in the game, the atmosphere here is as thick as the snow you will encounter. And don't get me started on the snow mechanics. Love it.

The other highlights are the sidequests, they're really interesting, fun and have a decent length to them. You also have some new machines which are cool like the Frostclaw/Fireclaw(which is a bear and I love bears, yes I'm biased fy) and the Scorchers.

The main story is also just smaller in scale because it's a DLC but it compliments it really well, it adds to the exisiting story/universe and I had a good time with it. I can almost guarantee you that if you didn't like Zero Dawn by itself you most definitely will like or even love the Frozen Wilds DLC. Just a great DLC all around.

Now fingers crossed that Guerilla Games keeps up this level of quality through Forbidden West and it's DLC Burning Shores.

I learned from my past mistake of playing HZD on a harder difficulty and dropped down to Easy for The Frozen Wilds, resulting in far more satisfying combat. At this difficulty each exploitation of a machines weakness had a visceral and enjoyable feel to it, where previously combat felt like a spongey slogfest. I'm a bit so-so on the story of HZD and The Frozen Wilds was no exception, though the voice acting is quality. A satisfying 8 hours or so were had and I'm excited to play the sequel in a similar manner.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a gaming experience that captivated me, even as a newcomer without prior knowledge of the franchise. Surprising me in every facet, this substantial expansion effortlessly mirrors the strengths of its main game while introducing additional elements, resulting in an experience nearly as breathtaking as the main campaign.

The decision to confine the majority of the action to a smaller setting proves to be quite a smart change. This not only enhances the pacing of the narrative, providing a more tightly woven and coherent story but also contributes to a more refined exploration experience of its open world.

Despite the limited setting, the game manages to maintain a commendable length, offering a plethora of engaging activities and collectibles to find. The wealth of content ensures a satisfying and immersive experience.

One noteworthy improvement lies in the character animations, which exhibit a remarkable level of expressiveness in contrast to the main game's somewhat stiff and lifeless animations, making it difficult to revert to the main campaign's.

Horizon: Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds has kindled my anticipation for the future of the franchise. The meticulous attention to detail in the world, refined gameplay, and enhanced animations showcase a commitment to elevating the overall experience. I eagerly look forward to what the franchise has in store for us next.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds is the only DLC released for Horizon Zero Dawn, released on PlayStation 4 in 2017. and making its appearance in the Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, but also can be bought digitally from the PS Store.

The Frozen Wilds DLC is a great addition to the game, a little story within the regions of the Banuk (a tribe who lives in the mountains). The DLC isn't a separate content, after making the purchase, a small addition to the map will appear in the north side of the original map. Since the recommended level is quite high, it's better to access it somewhere near the end of your main playthrough.
The monsters you'll encounter there are different, more powerful, encouraging new strategies and ways to defeat them.

All in all, if you liked the main story, I would highly suggest you to give this DLC a try. It's worth it.

This Expansion is pretty nice but it feels like a chore at times.
The new armor sets and weapons are good, but the Frozen Wilds storyline is kind of uninteresting and it doesn't add anything valuable to the game.

Granted, I really liked the setting, it's refreshing and something different from the main game.

Also the new enemy types add some challenge to the game.

Final Rating: "Average" ~ 5/10.

Just as lush, expansive, and easy to fall in love with as the base game - honestly one of the best expansions ever made. You just can't reckon with five bucks (often less during frequent sales) for all this beautiful content. Still has some current-day AAA sensibilities that I'm not too big on (the piss-easy 'platforming' for one) but all my gripes get swallowed right away when I just take one fucking LOOK at this thing. Snow levels in video games are often some of my favorites, and this is one for the books. Breathtaking, unforgettable environments abound that compliment this game's bracing lighting system perfectly. Not to mention the very respectable uptick in difficulty that makes this feel like its own original experience in addition to flowing into the base pretty naturally. Amazing.

a pretty good expansion that adds to the world and characters of the series without feeling super necessary. In this expansion, they added a new area to explore, a couple of new machines to fight, some new weapons to use, and a story that was longer than I had initially thought.

I liked all of the additions here, and even fixed a complaint I had in the original somewhat. The spear feels a bit more useful now since you can equip modifiers to make it stronger, though you still need to farm those modifiers and it feels very random with what you get.

As for the story, I got pretty invested in the three new characters and I loved how they went about introducing them and how their story fleshed out. It also gave a good insight into what we should expect for the next game in the series.

This is an expansion I would recommend to any fan of the original, no questions asked.

Played it directly after beating the main game and it did a great job at expanding the lore and world building.

I enjoyed the expansion's setting along with the new characters introduced. And I've always enjoyed Horizon's take on different human cultures after the fall of civilization.

Some frustrating moments fighting against the machines aside, this is still the same solid Horizon experience. If you liked the base game, you'll like this too.

From the very start of this adventure you will notice a difference from the main game. I'm not just talking about the harsh snow that covers the mountain. Improved animations, cutscenes, enemy behavior and pacing left me very satisfied.

I found the new, smaller scale of this adventure and map entertaining to explore. Its plot was more personal and the rewards for completing tasks felt richer. It provided much of what I was hoping to see in the original base game.

It's not perfect. Being an expansion it shares with it some of the bloat the rest of the title had. But I would say Horizon is a more interesting game to play when it focuses its world's narrative and cuts out the busy work.

If you are a fan of Horizon Zero Dawn, make sure you take a trip up north to see where the real fun is.
