Kirby's Pinball Land is a fun and unique spin on the classic pinball formula, transforming Kirby into the ball and familiar Dream Land settings into themed tables. The game boasts charming visuals, catchy tunes, and surprisingly solid pinball mechanics. However, the lack of table variety and some simplistic level designs hold it back from greatness. Still, it's an enjoyable and accessible pinball experience for Kirby fans and a solid entry into the Game Boy library.

I have become a marketable ball plushie ÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅHH yea he looks so soft and squishable so it was bound to happen, still it only took one spin-off the set the record straight. Kirby has done a lot of things after this, but for the first venture it is some pinball! You know it's pinball it's in the yucking name. Playing Kirby is like smoking in the non-smoking area so it's not your average pinball. Frame 1 and you're already firing Kirby in a cannon into one of the three levels there are. Now there's a left, center and right one so if this was Life Is Strange your choice would impact your political EXP bar I just made up, hmm yea the crux of the matter is that these levels have their own gimmicks to them and you get to fight Kracko, Poppy and Wispy (in-game typo, I know bro is so mad).

What happens is, you have to use your pinball skills to reach the highest floors where the boss is, honestly I'd just take the elevator but Kirby is not as weak-willed as me and I need to accept that. Kirby has no life (so me), which means bosses just restort to cucking the flippers until I relent, which I don't. Because if I did, I'd have to see this mf fall all the way down and I can't have that especially because the transition between screens is disorienting and I'd lose sight of who I am, where I am, why I am. If I do make it to the basement, scare unfolds like any good horror game: the springboard mechanic. It's like the bonus minigame in most Kirbys where you press A at the right time, but eventually Kirby's Pinball Land puts you in an unwinnable scenario. They still let you try tho but it's been an honor gents.

Among these bosses, the easiest might unironically be Dedede. No I haven't mentioned him but come on, he can't not be the final boss. He basically lets you hit whaaat 😳 I mean he has a phase where he locks into you like you have HP and he dont (its the opposite) which gives me flashbacks of me doing that as a kid in certain games tryna brute force everythang. After I've beaten him I can continue playing for a higher score, no I don't think I will. The bosses are familiar and so are their patterns, although you're gonna die at first when you don't know they're going for the damn flippers. Kracko and Poppy have chosen the path of cowardice and tag team on you with Kracko Jr. and... another Poppy Sr. The latter was the hardest to fold and dominate all over... It was kinda goofy to make Kirby warp between the two borders of the screen, he'll get airsick but it makes the fights easier I think just they take longer because you have the stop the pink bullet you're controlling.

I don't think I have grasped every gimmick to get warp stars, but I won the game and the winner writes history so I will choose to ignore them. Hitting a cloud to make it rain so a giant Kirby puts out an umbrella so it can propulse you to new heights, like at this point just ask Kirby Sr. there are no lore reasons for him telling you to suck it up and do it yourself. Furthermore... Kirby can't suck in this game! Is Kirby Sr. on sum crack? Why is there another Kirby in the first place. My noggin goin places rn.

The next Kirby game to release after Adventure was Kirby's Pinball Land. This was the first game I had yet to play prior to this whole thing and I gotta say, not really a fan of it tbh.

I do honestly enjoy pinball a bit, it's fun when you're just going for a high score or are at a pizza parlor and you see a pinball table and play it to pass the time. But Kirby's Pinball Land is actually beatable. See, each stage has a boss from Kirby's Dreamland you can fight if you progress high enough into the stage. The entire game is Dreamland themed actually. Well, I tried to get to Wispy Woods for 40 minutes straight and that's the first stage. Every time I'd defeat all the cappies in the little bonus game and make the warp star appear, something would make me fall down again. So yeah, I never even got to fight any of the bosses because I was just so frustrated trying to even get to the very first one in the first place. After giving up on the first stage then, I just decided to play the other two for a bit as well before calling it quits. There's 4 bosses in total, the three from the stages and then Dedede at the end. Idk if you have to do every stage and Dedede in one continue, because if so that's pretty ridiculous with how random pinball can be.

This review seems overly negative and yeah I was getting frustrated when playing and still don't care fit it much but for a simple pinball game, it's not bad. I'm giving it a bit of slack since it is an OG Gameboy game (and also maybe me not being much a fan is just a big skill issue). The Dreamland 1 visuals and references are nice and the music's nice too (most of it is just reused from Dreamland tho). Just maybe don't try to actually beat this game cuz you'll also get frustrated unless you have a high tolerance for random pinball BS lol. It's been a while since I played a game and didn't finish it, and I really hate doing that especially for a Kirby marathon like this, but idk man I just can't do it lol. Looking forward to playing Dream Course next!

Edit: In retrospect, maybe a 5 is too generous, especially since I couldn't even get to a boss cuz I had enough at that point. So I'll drop it to a 4.

The only reason I played this is because it’s Kirby and that it is one of the few Game Boy games that I’ve found interesting. Pretty boring tho! At least it still has the Kirby charm!

it sucks.

okay that might be a bit harsh but man I could just NEVER get into this one no matter how much I try. probably cause I suck at pinball in general and this is as tough as they come

Pretty fun and simple. had a good time

I don't like pinball.

I quite enjoy Kirby's Pinball Land.

IT'S JUST PINBALL, WHO CARES?????????

i love pinball but this shit Un Fair

Kirby's Pinball Land never managed to hook me.

The animations are so adorable. Just imagine how cool it would be if this game was actually fucking possible

nintendo needs to go back to the pinball phase

Pros: Lots of variety for a pinball game, tables upon tables, with stages of tables stacked on top of each other, as you flip or toss Kirby from one to the next. It's a creative take on Pinball, and it reps Kirby's Dream Land and Adventure very well for a pinball game.

Cons: A bit floaty for a pinball game, perhaps, and the small tables can be a bit aggravating to maneuver around. It doesn't really take advantage of the copy ability gimmick that Kirby is known for either.

What it means to me: I didn't play this game until years after it released, but I was always aware of it, and always did want to sink my teeth into it too. It's not bad, not great, but HAL would later make better pinball games, for sure.

Pretty fun. Not sure if there's an actual end game to this, I know you can climb up the table to reach new screens which is cool, but the gist of what I got is that it's just a high score type thing. Music is cute, and I like that all 3 boards are available from the beginning.

I'm glad that anon's parents love each other.

if you can beat this game without save states you should automatically qualify for a veteran's discount

Originally played this game on my original Game Boy around 11 years ago, later switched to playing it using my Game Boy Player peripheral. Over the years, I had played this a fair amount, and even managed to reach King Dedede, but never did defeat him. Today, I did some research and found you can access the bosses straightaway using a special code, and finally reached the game's "ending". Was it cheating? Maybe, but having reached all the bosses even without the aid of codes, I'd say I've experienced everything this game has to offer. Kirby's Pinball Land is an okay game; I would recommend it to those who like pinball, but not to your average Kirby fan.

This is game annoying asf. The charm is the only redeeming quality

you get to hit kirby with your bumpers and boy howdy is it fun

Yes, I'm rating spinoffs too.
Pinball is strangely a game genre nintendo often touches with its spinoffs, so Kirby, being a ball and all, makes perfecf sense as a franchise to have this type of game.
The gameplay isn't anything special, but it offers a fun enough twist on pinball for a couple hours, which is exactly how much it takes to finish the game.

This game is fine, a completely passable pinball title that has a cute Kirby aesthetic attached to it. the controls feel responsive, and it isn't broken in any significant way... at least when I played through it. This is just a pretty basic, and honestly pretty boring, pinball game. If you are in the mood to play it then it's a good time-waster, but there are better pinball games out there, especially for the Gameboy.

Alright, gather around everyone, because it is time for one of my patented shitty opinions! Here it is…………… I don’t like pinball. At all. Now, that isn’t to say that I completely dismiss pinball as a whole, as I perfectly understand why many people love and get into it, but I have never found it that fun or interesting. It mostly all just comes down to whether or not you can get lucky with whenever you hit the ball, and where it decides to go in the pinball table, and while you can get pretty lucky with it, 9 times out of 10 for me, it just ends up going absolutely nowhere, and making me question why I bother playing it in the first place. Despite this though, I still try out some forms of pinball on occasion, primarily through pinball video games, and there are a LOT of these things, even ones that have spun off from popular video game franchises. So, for the first, but certainly not the last, pinball game I will cover on this website, I have decided to tackle Kirby’s Pinball Land.

Out of all the pinball games I have ever tried, this is probably the one that I have played the most. It is primarily because it is Kirby, and I can’t help but love a lot of his games, so that is probably why I was suckered into playing plenty of this game to begin with, despite it being a pinball game. It was a pinball game that could be beaten though, so that is another reason why I stuck with it, and from my experience of beating it multiple times, I can say that… it certainly is a Kirby pinball game alright. It is good for what it is, and I am sure it can entertain pinball enthusiasts for a good amount of time, but it can only manage to keep me entertained for so long.

The graphics are Game Boy graphics, having a look that is almost identical to that of the original Kirby’s Dream Land, but it still manages to look very fun and charming through its simplicity, so it is very visually pleasing, the music is alright, having several enjoyable themes, along with several annoying ones, as well as several tracks that were taken straight from Kirby’s Dream Land, so that is gonna get some points taken off, the control is… well, it’s pinball, what do you expect, and the gameplay is… again, what do you expect?

The game is definitely a pinball game, where you take control of Kirby, go through three different pinball tables each themed after a Kirby boss, such as Kracko, Whispy Woods, and… the Poppy Bros. (you know, everybody’s FAVORITE Kirby boss), bounce yourself all around the table to pass through plenty of obstacles and progress further up into the table, gather plenty of items and bonuses to keep that high score building up and prove that you are the greatest Kirby to ever pinball, and fight against the previously said bosses while making sure that you don’t get sent back down to the table… which is a lot harder than it sounds. You pretty much know what to expect when going into it, so there isn’t many unique elements to be seen here, but for what it is worth, it still has some admirable qualities.

Since it is a Kirby themed pinball game, all of the tables are decorated with plenty of Kirby enemies and Kirby himself, all of them contributing in some way to either get you more points or to help you progress further up in the table, and it is all very cute and adorable to see. And it isn’t just about simply reaching to the top either, as you do have to complete certain tasks to gain access to the other floors of the table, such as hitting a slot machine to get all Kirbys, or by getting two Kirbys to spit out and swallow several items to get the right one that will propel you upwards. It isn’t much, but it is a much more appealing alternative to just “get points and win”. The same also goes for the boss fights, which, while you don’t have much control over, are good enough for what they are, and you do feel pretty accomplished when you take them down.

However, all of this is much easier said than done. Since it is a pinball game, whether or not you can beat it all boils down to one simple factor: luck. Yeah, a lot of the stuff that you do in these tables is controlled by what you do, but in a lot of other cases, you will be flying all over the place, not sure what to do, and before you know it, you will lose all of your Kirbys and end up with a Game Over. I can never play through this game without using save states because of this, and quite frankly, if you managed to get through it all without them, then you must be the luckiest person on the planet. With all that being said though, the game is pretty short, so it isn’t really that big of a deal, and if you are wanting to blast through, then I would say to go for it. Just, you know, don’t be so surprised if you struggle quite a bit.

Overall, despite it’s very appealing look and enjoyable approach to the genre, it really isn’t anything more than just a simple pinball game at the end of the day for me. There are many things I can appreciate and enjoy about it, but it is something I don’t really see myself coming back to much at all in the future. That being said though, it is a good pinball game, and if you are a fan of pinball, Kirby, or even both, then this game is sure to satisfy your needs. Let’s just hope though that this is the only Kirby pinball game to ever be made, and they don’t make any other Kirby spin-offs themed after things I don’t like, such as, I dunno, golf. Yeah… that would be stupid………………

Game #440

I don't like pinball games in the best of times, and this ain't changing my mind.

Yep, it's an old school pinball video game alright.
Tbh I find these things kinda neat, and the genuine quality of this make it feel a cut above the rest, and the typical Kirby charm definitely helps...albeit all the music and graphics are ripped from Dream Land 1.

Kirby makes so much sense as a little pinball guy.

Oh god, this is the start of the terrifying Kirby spinoff age. From 1993 to 1995 we got 3 Kirby spinoffs in a row in between the two mainline games.

This is Kirby's pinball, notice how it's Kirby('s) pinball as if it's his own damn pinball machine, but then why is he inside that pinball machine, and why is there King Dedede and the other bad guy in it? I'm thinking too hard about this...

Well it's what you'd expect out of a Gameboy pinball game, it's pinball. You rack up a high score by bumpin' the ball around till you get whacky events and fight bosses to switch to the next pinball stage which usually is the same thing as the last one but with minor differences. This game is just ok, it's making me mad for existing and it's the same with Pokemon pinball! I'm glad the pinball trend no longer exists.
Don't get me wrong though, I do love me some pinball but old pinball games are just... Old...

If anything you people reading this review of Kirby's fucking pinball land and I swear I have no idea what made you want to come to this page in the first place, you should check out the pinball minigame in Kirby Mass Attack it's really really fun!

Should you play this game, I don't know and I don't care, they didn't even tell me how Kirby got his own gigantic pinball machine that can fit him and his pals inside so why would I answer you if you should play this damn game.
