This was perfectly fine and all, but why is the underlying message of every piece of Lego media "our products will help you spend more time with your workaholic dad"?

Played on Meta Quest 3

The controls are helped so much by VR, good golly. This game doesn't have an insane amount of pull for me, but it is absolutely very solid.

Really nice visuals and satisfying sound design. Worth a play but the actual controls (considering there is only 1 button) are very annoying at times.

I've been a huge Lego enthusiast all my life, and while I've also enjoyed Lego's now-formulaic action game format, I was pleased to see them branch out into something more experimental. As there is no added licensed material to work with, I expected Builder's Journey to lean into Lego's own identity, particularly regarding creativity. And it does... a little. This is a puzzle game about getting a character from point A to point B. There are varying amounts of creative wiggle room for how you do this, but it's ultimately a puzzle game with a linear solution each time. In the few moments the puzzles are more challenging, the creative options almost disappear entirely. Granted, it's extremely difficult to make puzzles and options gel; I personally had some difficulty getting into Scribblenauts and parts of Tears of the Kingdom for this reason. The narrative is carried out with no dialogue and feels like it wants to have depth, but within the first ten minutes, I understood the message to be "work and monotony bad, child and fun good" and gathered nothing else throughout the rest of it. I ran this on a high-powered machine and fiddled with the very involved (and unclear) graphical settings, but ultimately could not get it to look any nicer than its Switch port (turn off film grain and motion blur at the very least). The environments are well-detailed and use many clever brick choices, but there is surprisingly little variety beyond grassy-craggy areas and dim, mechanical areas.

It's not a bad game, but I didn't get much out of it either. That said, I appreciate the attempt and I don't want Lego to give up on branching out.

Little fun game. However the puzzles are quite simple and I'm quite tired of the father/son relationship trend.

I’m not even joking. Lego dad sucks! Dude breaks the path so his kid can’t follow then he abandons him night after night. I thought they were camping why is he going to work!?

Cute little game with surprisingly good and realistic lego rendering. Very good at showing a nice story without much text and no dialogue. Sometimes figuring out the objective is a bit tough for later levels but overall a good experience. Also has a sandbox mode where you can build stuff with the virtual legos but I think the UX/UI design of it could be better (though it’s really cute as is)

Probably the first game I've played in a while that makes me feel disappointed. Was hoping for a chill, eye-candy puzzle game, and what I got is a clunky, headscratch-inducing and repetitive one.

I do not like how the game controls: selecting which blocks to move can feel very finicky with the analog stick, especially in later parts of the game. And having to hold the X button to put things down gets tiresome quickly. Maybe it would work better with a mouse.

As for the puzzles themselves, it's kinda weird. Most of the time you will have to move your character from start to wherever the goal is, and the act of repeatedly selecting which blocks your character can move to feels mindnumbing to me. The closest thing to good puzzles here are the ones where all you have to do is connect the starting location to the goal with blocks that you character can skate on, since it removes the previous repetitive act. But even then these puzzles don't feel particularly satisfying, stimulating, or interesting. During the story mode, there is no point where I felt like I was doing something fun. I'm truly baffled by it. If I didn't know it was only 2 hours, I would probably bail out midway through.

There's also the creative mode, which allows you to build freely in a 10x10 Lego area. I tried making something nice but the story mode left such a bad taste in my mouth that I just can't really put my mind into it. Bought this on 50% off and I definitely regret it.

honestly just not very fun. got this game from the epic games 2022 holiday game giveaway and i can see why it was given out for free

i click on bricks, i follow the 'story', i destroy capitalism but what's the point, really..

Controls like shit with controller but it was pretty fun regardless

(Series X, 4K 60fps, raytracing off)

This game looks beautiful and is fun to look at, but really just lacks depth.
Everything in Lego Builder’s journey is made out of Lego, which is honestly most people’s dream when it comes to an actual Lego game. But when you start to look further into it, there isn’t really much room for creativity. You can only place the Lego pieces in certain areas and it makes the game feel much more like a puzzle game with a Lego theme and less of a Lego game, which I guess is what they were going for but still feels disappointing. The story is also boring and is just there to string along different environments. It’s an “eh” game and it’s a good thing it doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Very fun and relaxing puzzle game and just a good time. It is very short and I wish there was more to do but overall a pretty solid 7/10 game

Reviewing every game i've fully completed #5

A perfect zen wind down puzzle game. The sound design and charming story made for a perfectly chill puzzle solving atmosphere. While unmistakably Lego, I love that this game sets itself apart from other Lego games with minimalistic design. The pacing makes for the perfect “pick up and put down” Switch game. Almost felt like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker set in a Lego world. The controls can get a little wonky when trying to get a piece to the exact spot you intend. But otherwise smooth and chill experience.

A fun, quick game. I would have a hard time justifying the full $20 for this game. Well worth the $5 sale price I got.

Nothing more then a very well made, and fun Lego game. The story is cute, the levels/puzzles are sweet, and the graphical style is superb; this game had no right to sound and look as good as it did. I would have to say however that this game is not worth its asking price, for me in CAD its about $20. However, I got it on sale for $5 and am quite happy with that and its hour and a half story length. The extra creative mode could add more, but its not that versatile, and I got bored of it quite fast despite being a Lego fanatic. Overall, a very fun game all around, and a short little experience that worth a little playthrough when on sale.

This is a cute little game with a lovely story that looks great.

While there are some levels I really like, most of them are more tasks than puzzles. This would contribute to the game's relaxing vibe by only occasionally actually challenging you, if it weren't for the fact that the controls are awful.

The mouse is completely normal until you pick up a piece. It then becomes significantly more sensitive (and there's acceleration). Also, it's left click to pick up, left click to rotate, and then hold left click to place. Holding left click to place is incredibly unintuitive. It should just be left click to place and scroll wheel to rotate. These two problems (mostly the sensitivity) combine to make the whole game feel like I'm fighting the controls. It baffles me how something so fundamental and easy could get messed up like this. What is supposed to be a relaxing experience becomes frustrating because placing LEGO pieces is so awkward.

Despite the core mechanics of the game feeling awkward, I enjoyed the game. It made me feel smart like any good puzzle game should, and it certainly succeeds at looking great and telling a nice, heartwarming, albeit simple story. I don't think it's worth $20 though.

Builder's Journey is a wholesome relaxing puzzle game with lego bricks with the journey of two characters, a son and a father.

Gameplay
Fairly easy puzzle game, a bit satisfying and it has decent bricks interactions and it's short like 2 hours so give it a try if you want to.

Story
It's about a son and a father, together they explore and build stuff to get across rivers and such, in the end you have to find your father who left for work in his factory and a robot helps you find him by doing simple puzzles.

Conclusion
A short fun experience from 5 years ago with a decent story and not hard puzzles, if you feel comfortable you might as well try it anytime.

Good for what it's trying to be

It's cute! A series of LEGO puzzle dioramas that are, by and large, fairly simple but do allow for some level of creativity when finding a solution. The story isn't revelatory, but it does touch on father/son relationships and ideas of work and play. By far, my favorite parts were the early game hike and the moments when the father and son would build together alternate turns.

Irgendwie ganz niedlich, aber auch verdammt anspruchslos. Spielt sich beinahe wie ein idle Game.

Für Kids sicherlich nett.
