THANK YOU EDMUND MCMILLAN FOR CREATING MEAT without it...and I'll be frank from this moment on during this review... My Burger Resturaunt aptly titled "Bob's Burgers" would instead sound a little something like "Bob's Buns" and I don't know how I would feel about that if it were a reality. Sounds ferociously homosexual

...well it sure isn't Super Meat Boy.

Kinda mid but it's charming and the OST is good. Play Super Meat Boy instead; if I remember correctly, it has some refined level concepts from the Flash version.

i like the weird ahh aspect ratio tbh

A fun flash game that paved the way for the genius of super meat boy. Was worth the playthrough

It look like a beta version of super meat boy

The decent little flash game that would later become the absolutely immaculate Super Meat Boy.

The most impressive thing about Meat Boy is how Edmund managed to improve on it so much in literally every way possible with Super Meat Boy only 2 years later. Still pretty good but doesn't hold a candle to its sequel.

I can't play platformers without controller support. Just play Super Meat Boy.

making the aspect ratio 100x900 was a bold move

Decided to play through the original this morning (after many years since trying it out first on original Flash) because I was bored and it's fine I guess. Having played Super Meat Boy before this, the most notable difference is that they really, really improved the controls in SMB. In the original Meat Boy, you have to really watch your momentum and keep tapping against your direction of float because otherwise, it's super easy to fall off platforms or lean too far into the somewhat imprecise hitboxes of lava/salt/buzzsaws/other hazards. It's pretty bread & butter level based platforming otherwise and has held up well enough for its time, and Danny Baranowsky's tracks are a nice touch. It's not my favorite platforming series (and it doesn't help that keyboard controls feel a bit more imprecise for me over using a controller) but it's a nice relic of its time if you want to go back to the original source material for a spin; otherwise, you should just play Super Meat Boy instead.

Not too fond of this one because of the way it feels distinctly against what Super Meat Boy was. The fast paced precision platforming doesn't really work too well when it feels like you're constantly fighting against these imprecise, floaty controls, and it makes even some of the simplest jumps feel agonising to perform because the lack of precision almost makes your movements feel completely committal rather than having the control required to perform the actions in the way you want.

The levels for the most part also feel rather uninspired, focusing around just having to jump between smaller and narrower platforms from further apart rather than the more creative obstacles that these games strongly benefit from. Danny B is forever an awesome composer as well and brings a bit of personality to this that makes it a fairly middling experience rather than a purely terrible one to me. There are much better difficult platformers out there, such as Super Meat Boy

It's like Super Meat Boy but with worse controls, worse levels and less content.
