Lo mejor que ha parido Kojima

Naked Snake in 60fps, 720p. on ps3 you get anti aliasing and proper anistropic texture filtering. on ps5 you somehow don't.
Fun game and I definitely see its vast improvements over 2, especially playing subsistence compared to the original PS2 snake eater.
Every time I try to do something, and I have to watch a better player do it after me so I can see the crazy choices I never even would've thought to try.

At the end of 2023, I've accomplished one big gaming feat; I have beaten all 3 of the Metal Gear Solid games! Out of the three games, MGS3 is the one that stands out the most. Although I wouldn't consider it my favorite game out of the original trilogy, it does, overall, do everything better than the rest.

Let's start with the story, you do not need to have played the first two to fully understand everything going on, since this is mostly a prequel of those games. Instead of playing as Solid Snake, you take on the role of Naked Snake trying to rescue a Russian scientist who is forced in creating a weapon of mass destruction, the Shagohod. What happens then is that his teacher, Boss, has defected to the Russian federation with Commander Volgan and Snake has to kill Boss for the CIA. He has the help of EVA, who is a spy that has infiltrated the Russians to aide Snake (with some ulterior motives). With all the pieces in place, the story itself is fantastic, as it tells the origins of the game's primary antagonist(?), Big Boss. I love what they have done and how the characters have deep progression throughout the game.

The gameplay itself it kinda the same, except you have free range with the camera, which changes everything about sneaking around. All that freedom creates situations for placements and to plan out your routes in a more natural way from its predecessors. The boss fights this times around are very interesting and are pretty memorable and has some high octane moments and some horrors elements as well, its great how it balances everything out.

This is the near perfect MGS experience that everyone should consider trying out. It has great story and great gameplay. The music lends itself to the immersion to the game, and the bosses are very memorable. What a great way to end 2023 by finishing this game!

Replay- First full pacifist run and man does it still got it fucking phenomenal

it amazes me how consistently every game in this series improves on what i first thought was a perfect formula. while i loved the earlier games' settings, this game's jungle is a much more memorable environment. the more open areas change the basic stealth gameplay loop just enough to feel fresh, but not vastly different compared to the first two games. the new mechanics introduced are a lot of fun, and it's really impressive how things like healing snake's wounds or changing camouflage are so in-depth. CQC is also great. visually, this game is unforgettable. there's something very particular about the visual style and art direction that makes MGS3 stand out among every other game i've played. in terms of its story, this game is perfect, especially how well the characters are written. i loved The Boss and i really liked Ocelot, even though i didn't like him in the first two games. the ending, while it was predictable, was one of the best and most emotional in any game i've played.

masterpiece story and perfect for switch. awesome way to set up mgs universe.

This review contains very minor story spoilers

Prefix the same thing I did on my MGS 1 & 2 review. I played this through the new master collection on PS5 however I want to talk about each game individually so ill review each one as I complete them and then ill talk about the master collection later.

This time last month I had never touched a metal gear game but always had intentions of getting into it one day, fast forward to today and MGS3 has became one of my favourite games of all time. While the first two are extremely good games, Snake Eater blows them both out the water, with a beautiful story, major changes in the franchises gameplay and one hell of a good score. There is a reason that this is considered one of the best games of all time and it has quickly shot into my top 15.

Starting off with the Story, it is without a doubt the best in the series. It has fantastic characters which are all given enough time to develop across the game, a really interesting and tense story which has enough twists and subversions to keep you guessing throughout. Naked Snake is a great protagonist and despite looking and sounding identical, is different enough from Solid Snake to hammer in that you are playing as a different character. The side characters are at their best here. Eva is a really good character and the chemistry between her and Snake is a highlight. Ocelot constantly appearing to try and beat Snake is funny and actually serves as a good origin for his character. Volgin is a really imposing main villain and it was nice to have a main antagonist which isn't just another Snake clone. The codec characters are cool and thankfully dont overstay their welcome unlike in MGS2. Finally though, The Boss, one of the best characters in the series and through a small amount of screen time manages to have such a meaningful arc and the twist makes for a beautiful ending. "She was a true Patriot"

The gameplay is changed massively from the first two games. Where they featured a fixed camera and had all your items laid out for you, Snake Eater takes a more survival approach and ditches it for a free camera and makes you pick and choose with what you have equipped. It also has a camouflage feature where you can select between a bunch of different outfits and face paints to better disguise yourself while in the jungle. Also added is a focus on gathering food, Snake has to eat periodically to regain his stamina, also to add to immersion Snake has to treat his wounds using the cure area. Depending on the injury Snake can use a variety of supplies to treat them otherwise his health will gradually decrease. Combat plays similarly to MGS2 with the first person aiming but makes a lot more use of CQC.

Another area where Snake Eater excels is the boss fights. Probably the best in the series only possibly rivalled with the first game. The Cobras are this games "Sons of Liberty" and are 100x better and more enjoyable. Each boss being themed around an emotion they take into battle is a really cool idea. Each boss feels very different and while they aren't as integral to the narrative as the FOXHOUND guys in MGS1 they are still important to the story. The End and The Fury were my two favourites, Also I really liked The Sorrow's section I thought it added a great creepy atomsphere. The Volgin boss fight was also pretty fun and The Boss is a brilliant fight as you feel more outmatched by her than you do Volgin who is double the size.

Visually the game looks stunning for its time. The jungle aesthetic is a bit samey due to the lack of colour beside green but the sections where you are out of the jungle make up for that. Character designs are great and probably the best in the series. The score is one of my favourites of all time, the main theme is fantastic and the music throughout is a joy to listen to.

Technical wise I found that the characters facial animations would glitch a lot with there mouths never matching up to what they are saying and sometimes not even opening at all. Very minor nit pick which is probably just a sign of the times.

I genuinely have little to no complaints about this game as my biggest complaint was fixed. Snake Eater doesn't feature any 12 minute long exposition filled codec segments or any needlessly long cutscenes where nothing of interest happens. Instead it has beautifully crafted cutscenes that help advance the narrative instead of playing the whole game like a movie. Also the motion capture for the fight choreography is really good for its time and holds up with stuff released today.

Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater is rightfully considered one of the greatest games of all time. Kojima created an amazing story that feels like an amazing movie and an equally amazing game. Without a doubt worth a play, I'm annoyed it took me so long to get into this franchise, unfortunately from what I can gather it doesn't go well from here but I will probably stick with it once the next volume of the master collection comes out. Up there with my favourite games of all time.

For me, it was better than MGS 1 and 2 and probably the best part of the series. The story was a bit more down-to-earth and the setting was also very cool. I liked how charming and sometimes goofy Big Boss was and also the dynamics of the team around him and the codec conversations with them. The boss fights were also legendary ("The End" blew my mind, WTF^^). Awesome ending, tears were shed :D

Snake Eater is an amazing game in every sense of the word, I'll start with that. Everything was handled brilliantly by Kojima and his team, from the tiniest details of the gameplay to the game's story as a whole. Stylistically the game differs itself from its predecessors by changing the aesthetic completely. The new survival aspects really put the “Tactical” into “Tactical Espionage Action”.

Snake’s relationship with The Boss, his mentor and almost mother-like figure, is the center of the game’s whole narrative. Snake Eater is a story about loyalty and patriotism and how these virtues can tear one apart. Big Boss is forced to kill The Boss, giving up his honor and soul for the sake of his country. This is the same country guilty of tarnishing The Boss’ legacy, someone who has also given everything and more to protect it. The game’s ending is a cynical one in which Snake sees that the country he’s given everything to protect is run by people who view people (and their sacrifices) as nothing more than pieces on a board. They praise and reward Big Boss for accomplishing his mission while forever condemning The Boss for doing the same, it doesn’t make any sense. This ending makes it easy to see why BB eventually leaves the US military and goes on to form Outer Heaven, a place where soldiers are not treated as weapons and expendable pieces but as people.

I think the game’s theme of what it means to be a soldier parallels Solid Snake’s and Raiden’s journey in the previous game(s) pretty nicely. Snake Eater was about “loyalty to the end” and following your country almost blindly, always putting the mission first. Ultimately, we saw how this “soldier” mindset affected Snake and The Boss. MGS 1 and 2’s main message is about choosing for yourself what you want to believe in and “being loyal to what matters” as Arthur Morgan would say.

Positives:
-This is the best prequel yet created. And one of the best games ever made

-Insane spectacle the cutscenes are awesome, and the bosses are all amazing.

-Finally you can move the camera, it makes the game easier to handle in a good way. It has the great mechanics solid 2 added but lowers the difficulty.

-Of course lots of stupid stuff to do and insane detail. The game even comments on the fact this is a prequel(which is why I think you shouldn't start with it).

Negatives:

-Minor gripe but too much fanservice

-Also a me thing, but I would have preferred if the main character had a different voice actor just to make him stand out.

-Volgin sucks. In a series where the main villain is always one of if not the best character in their game he was just garbage. The people he employed shit on him and he's scared of them. Yet the game wants him to be this badass woah look at this guy. But for obvious reasons this doesn't bother me as much as it should.

NOT AS GOOD aS 2 thanks. Still great though what a thrill etc very silly and fun

The best game I ever played. Best music, characters, history, the best way to tell a history. "Try to remember the basics of CQC"

Easily the best tactical espionage action game, very strange but also high effort/quality.

man this game is just not for me

I love this game so much. It's easily my favourite of the series. I can go on and on about it's gameplay, story, ending, characters, music, all the small little details, the way it recontextualises Big Boss.

Despite how much I've played it, no matter how many times I've seen it, the ending and it's speech will never fail in tearing me up. What a masterful piece of art, guess you could say, it's pretty good.

You have to wonder what a rat tastes like

Master Collection version

Still an amazing experience, even better with an opened third eye and a better understanding of the mechanics. Absolutely deserving of it's praise and it has actually aged pretty well for it's time. I think that there are still some rough edges that needed polishing, and I'm quite excited to see how that is done in the remake. There are a lot of sections of this game that intrigue me to see with fresh eyes in the remake in general, this game is so great that I'm eager to see whether they improve on or fuck it up.

In any case, one of my favourite games of all time. I feel like, even if the story isn't as complex or as much of a mindfuck as Metal Gear Solid 2, it's still pretty solid for what it sets out to be. The narrative does it's job and it's still very emotional, Naked Snake is the best protagonist in the series, better than even Solid Snake, so that also gives this one an edge over it's predecessors and it's successors. For me, it's the best in the series, pending revision once I replay the others.

She was a true patriot...

What a thrill
With darkness and silence through the night
What a thrill
I'm searching and I'll melt into you
What a fear in my heart
But you're so supreme!
I give my life
Not for honor, but for you
Snake eater
In my time there'll be no one else
Crime, it's the way I fly to you
Snake eater
I'm still in a dream, snake eater!
Someday you go through the rain
Someday you feed on a tree frog
This ordeal, the trial to survive
For the day we see new life! I give my life
Not for honor, but for you
Snake eater
In my time there'll be no one else
Crime, it's the way I fly to you
Snake eater
I'm still in a dream, snake eater!
