My favorite MGS game. Finally provides a more traditional 3rd person camera, as opposed to the first two games' top-down approach, and stealth is more reminiscent of Splinter Cell. There are still long cutscenes, but they're not as frequent as MGS1 & 2. Love the story and characters, despite some hammy moments. My only major gripe are the controls which still aren't as intuitive as I'd like; such as pressure-sensitivity being used to decide between a lethal and nonlethal takedown.

One of the best games ever made, period. Excellent characters, Snake, ocelot and The Boss being the highlights. An amazing OST. The stealth gameplay at first u have to get used to but when you do its alot of fun and there is a surprising amount of depth and hidden things that the game doesn’t tell you how to do. When you actually get the basics of CQC down its very satisfying to use. Also theres is a bunch of hidden details and secrets that you can find in the game, like secret ways to defeat bosses, hidden items and hidden cutscenes. The bosses are great with the final boss being the best. The game still looks decent surprisingly and the cinematography is what you would expect from Kojima. Its probably the best bond movie.

Still to this day, my favorite game of all time. So mechanically dense, fun, witty, charming, and topped off with a pretty good story to boot that mixes in the real-world politics of The Cold War with a zany "Bondian" lighthearted tone.
There is a bit to be desired with the PlayStation 3 port, though, with some serious frame rate issues when things get heated, but the general push to 60FPS, as opposed to the 30FPS PS2 version, mitigates that issue slightly.

SNAAAAAAKE EEEEEEEAAATTTEEEEERRRRRRRRRR

My first playthrough was 18 hours. The second was 11. My most recent was 5. This is the greatest game ever made.

I need to play this game again. It's been a while.

This is a much more consistent game than the previous two, but there’s two things I really did not like and one of them I feel very conflicted about.

1. I really dislike the art design direction that this game has gone in. The idea of setting a Metal Gear Solid game in a jungle setting is fantastic, but I don’t think the PS2 at the time had the power to render these areas in anything but a mush of brown/green that the enemies blend into. I understand that you could look at this as improving the stealth elements of the game, especially with the removal of the radar also. However, I have very mixed feelings about this choice.

2. One thing I have no inner conflict about is the Volgin and Shagohod boss fights followed by the EVA escort mission. This sequence takes up a couple of hours of the game with the cutscenes as well as the actual gameplay and it’s horrendous to play through. It’s such as a shame, considering my previous comment about the consistency of the game as a whole.

Now that I have some complaints out of the way, I want to throw some high praise around, starting with the choice to go back in time and tell a more stripped down and grounded story in a different setting. I also love the survival elements, the camouflage and how Snake feels more human and realistic than Solid or Raiden. Additionally, I feel this game has the best boss fights of the series so far, with The End and The Sorrow being the obvious stand outs.

Despite my issues with moments towards the end of the game, the actual conclusion is the best in the series so far. With your defeat of The Boss and the reveal of the purpose of her defection and sacrifice. It’s a strong story and relates back to themes from the previous games about soldier’s being pawns.

I feel that the reason technology is so coveted in the universe of Metal Gear, is that unlike a blood and flesh soldier, it can be more controlled, and control is the name of the game.

Sin duda alguna, una de las mayores obras maestras que he jugado en mi vida. Un título cuasi perfecto, cargado de momentos épicos, casposos, fanservice y personajes memorables. Imposible no llorar ni emocionarse. The Boss.

La versión HD es que es impecable, quizás alguna pequeña ralentización aquí y allá en determinados momentos cuando había fuego en pantalla o muchas partículas, pero en general es estupendo disfrutar de un juego así con tanta calidad. Bluepoint siempre impecables.

THE BEST IN THE SERIES. This game is truly a masterpiece. Definitely a MUST PLAY. Amazing storytelling, Epic boss fights, and fun gameplay.

Everything in this game blends perfectly to create what I consider to be the greatest game ever made. My strange connection with this series exemplified all of the great moments in Snake Eater. This game has such great pacing that compliments the story so well. Every boss is memorable in what they represent. I thought that I would be disappointed in the ending because it took me so long to get to this game and I've been hyping it up for what feels like forever. I am happy to say that this is not the case. This game made me cry like a bitch.

(This is how I played 3)
Such a great package.
Still not over the learning curve, but I love everything about it (except my own feeble brain).

I dont think its better than 2, but i liked anyway. It's a better story. A good ending. But i prefer the previous games gameplay.

While this game can have glimmers of MGS1's charm and didn't annoy me nearly as much as 2's Big Shell, I found the game to be good but not great.

Probably the most damning aspect of the game is its gameplay and how little any of it actually matters. While the game probably shines in gimmick runs on harder difficulties, if you're just a schlub who wants to simply beat the game on it's normal difficulty, you can just walk forward with little to no resistance no matter how alerted guards are. It is a little funny to see how little of a fuck you can give about anything and still manage to clear areas, but that sense of joy won't cover the game's full runtime.

The story also gets a lot of praise but outside of some wacky moments and enjoyable cartoon characters, I found it hard to get invested in any of it? I blame this feeling on the various Kojima trademarked exposition dumps, especially the final cutscene vomiting out a bunch of character motivations when I was mentally checked out at like... the motorcycle segment where I chucked stun grenades at enemies for like 30 straight minutes four hours prior to the end.

And speaking of the motorcycle segment, this game has a lot of story beats just ripped off from the first game which is absolutely hilarious considering the second game's entire meta gimmick and it's probably intentional hack writing and I'll give it up, fuck it.

The real takeaway I'm getting out of this game is that Kojima will never make something as funny or charming as the original Metal Gear Solid for me and I am in no rush to see how it all unfolds, even though I heard four is everyone's favourite.

Las excentricidades narrativas de Kojima lo hacen maravilloso en todos los sentidos.

I can't log the Ps2 one since I haven't played it myself but the only difference is that the people look less fuzzy.

The secret vision you can see after killing The Boss gets me every time.

Metal Gear Solid 3 perfectly nails the formula and is the definitive game to represent the series. Not only is it a great start for newcomers (as it is a prequel) but it also is great for any fans of the other games and is incredibly replayable. So many systems and mechanics are in place to just get so many cool details and gameplay scenarios that really shows the amount of the love put into it. Not only that the but the story and the characters are phenomenal and well written giving one of the best and most heartwrenching performances in a game I've played. Please if you are at all interested in Metal Gear give this game a shot.

Style, charisma and complexity are at the core of Snake Eater's essence. Its beautiful visuals, likable and complex characters, deep ideological conflict, wide variety of gameplay possibilities and heartrending moments of plot make this one of the best games of all time.

Incredible story. Controls are pretty clunky but it’s forgivable for its age

Another Kojima classed in the Metal Gear Solid series. I loved the Cold War setting and the survival elements. I also thought the story, true to form, was gripping and action-packed. The gameplay was as tight as ever and very well done.

The peak of Metal Gear. Kojima's magnum opus.

Pacifist replay. Got the trophy this time, still wish I knew what it was that counted against me my last attempt. Got the Tsuchinoko!
