thought about this a few days after having initially finished/reviewed it, but honestly it kinda blows now that i've sat on it for a bit. the only novelty is having 8 generations of pokemon in kanto, unless you're a fan of incredibly boring teams by the mid-late game, ds sprite insertion (clashing art style and all) into a gba game or laughably bad original writing in random spots. i think i kind of enjoyed the game after initially having beaten it because the points where i struggled were fun sometimes, but as a whole it's largely overhyped and not worth playing unless you play pokemon showdown and clap every time you get to see landorus therian or primal groudon on somebody's team

pretty enjoyable when its not extremely hard, but the elite four is too much for me. everything else was cool tho

Awesome fire red hack, QoL changes are awesome and translation of competitive Pokemon to a game like this is insanely impressive.

Not finishing hardcore mode because I’m not a masochist.

bastard cheating ai. im a fire type that's using an electric type? guess what fucko the ai will switch out their water type because it read your move.

only fun for ev grinders who think spamming a for 5 hours is a fun thing to do

Be prepared to actually EV train. I know some people who've called it bad because it has comp sets but like, that's the point. It's different and takes liberties which I think is respectable and bold.

Fan-fucking-tastic Pokemon game. My only problem is the game can get super overwhelming, but holy shit is this game a ton of fun

Fantastic pokemon ROM hack. It is a bit frustrating at first, but once you unlock the QoL features -- this is what every pokemon game should offer.

Pros:
Difficulty is really, really fun. Have to plan out teams and be selective of which pokemon you want to use. Many QoL changes such as EV/IV training, Egg tutors, no HMs needed on 'mons, etc.

Cons:
Difficulty can also be very frustrating, but also rewarding. Would like to have had access to EV/IV training earlier + much cheaper. Would eliminate the grind and help players focus on the real game -- the difficulty.

I didn't end up finishing this because I have priorities in life, but what I did play was super fun. Probably the most challenging Pokemon game I've played, although it gives the player plenty of ways to deal with those challenges and make any Pokemon they capture valuable. Late game is really difficult, and if I had more time + good commitment I probably would've powered through.

the rocket exec battle in the Cerulean Cave is a bit bollocks, but I'll do it eventually.

Was good as a difficulty hack but the league was HELL, that Eternatus WASN'T necessary at all
Other than that I hate Kanto but this made it playable, I played more than a minute so that's something

this game is fun but fuck sabrina

Toughened up version of Fire Red with so many newer mechanics and features crammed in. Extremely difficult but ultimately extremely fun game to play through for pokemon veterans. I had so much fun I actually posted in the radical red thread on some pokemon forum with an account I had made like 14 years prior and never used. Tons of fun.

Fun hack with some questionable design choices.

The qol fixes are amazing. I love that there's dexnav and the raid den implementation provides for some simple fun on the side. Also being able to get rid of the EV and IV grind entirely is amazing. Has a variety of different options which give it some nice replayability as well.

That said, the cringy reddit-tier writing really brings it down and I wish it stayed more faithful to the original game. Also the Elite 4 having legendaries made it feel really unfair. I could get past the gym leaders having megas before you do, but fighting a crowned Zacian and Primal Dialga was just stupid.

Tried doing the post game, but the awful Jojo fanfic rival made me dip.

Overall, would be the definitive hack if it weren't for terrible zoomer writing and some dumb team comps.

A ROM Hack that introduces a lot of mechanics from later generations, quality of life changes and increased difficulty in the form of level caps, improved AI and trainer teams. Also, like 500 extra Pokemon too.
I played in the minimum grind mode because I didn't want to endanger the ratatta population for speed EVs. For someone with no competitive experience and whose last generation was 3 this was a refreshing experience. I don't think it's that hard either, it's certainly much harder than regular Pokemon, but as an RPG in general it's not that bad. I still managed to beat the game with the creatures I liked the most.
The developers also made changes to several Pokemon and moves in order to make them more competitive which is pretty neat for people who wish their favorite Pokemon was a little bit better. They also added extra bosses on top of the regular gym leaders who award some neat rewards.
Overall, I really liked this ROM Hack. I got to see a bit of what I was missing from not playing more generations after the third one and I got my fill of Pokemon for the next decade.

One of the most challenging and engaging rom hacks to come out of the community. Rewards game knowledge and is fun to experiment with!

Just a quick note about my review:

I stopped just before the elite 4 because I am already playing a bunch of other stuff and I got so into Radical Red that I burnt myself out. However, I will 100 percent come back to this game soon.

My Review:

This truly is the Pokemon game for someone who loves the singleplayer experience but feels like Pokemon is too easy and hand-holdy. To be clear, this is not what I would describe as a kaizo game but each gym or rival battle requires forethought, planning, and team building. For me, it is exactly the right difficulty.

This game "fixes" many things that I do not like about other Pokemon games:

- includes physical special split
- an easy place to level up your team in the mid game that scales to late game so I don't need to grind a TON
- Easier ways to get hidden abilities
- Methods that reduce grinding for a specific wild Pokemon
- Level caps for each gym so I can't just steamroll with 1 Pokemon
- 1 use hold items don't get used up when in gym or rival battles
- Unlimited use TMs
- No need for HM slaves
- A lot of information provided by the dev online to make planning easier

I'm sure I am missing other features I love about this game but these certainly are some of the big hitters imo.

The Cons:

I believe this game is still a work in progress but there still is a ton of content. The game currently ends after the Pokemon Champion so you do get a full game.

Some fights have a theme (like the gym leaders) and may randomly have a Pokemon that only marginally fit the theme. Most of the time, these Pokemon act as a spoiler to prevent obvious strategies for beating that battle. This feels a bit unfair at times. This is few and far between and never feels unfun.

Conclusion:

This is a big recommend from me boss

had 2 stop bein a fuckin eater and realize this is real nice. addition of a minimal grinding mode is one of those bridge building moments between the avid hardcore targeting of this with the more casual audience who just wanna experience one of the more polished and passionate romhacks out there. im neither audience (my interest in mons starts and stop with competitive singles) but i had a blast running through this with that mode turned on and building around shit like bulk up ledian and aerliate swellow lmao. like a lot of romhacks these days you gotta like LOOVE offense as an archetype in teambuilding tho because that's where all the novelty in teambuilding is and all you can go against--the most emblematic change of this game's design isn't giving double iron bash to copperajah or delphox magic guard mind blown but that you can't learn recover on pex until after the elite four level cap lmao. the way showdown has influenced a generation of players to pocketwatch stall is so crazy. foucault was so right abt that panopticon shit turning everybody 2 a cop. real heads will sniff out shit like mudsdale getting slack off or regen teleport mega audino tho...deviancy always finds a way.
