Delightful little game. Literally laughed out loud when I rediscovered the core mechanic. Couldn’t really put it down once I started. Tilt and tap controls on iOS feel great. Would play more fishing games if they included guns!

I’ve started a few NG+ by now and am enjoying the loop. Progress will be slow as I pick up the game again here and there and I’ve feel I’ve had my fun with it. Tilt controls felt sublime at the start and it sadly got worse the longer I played. Maybe that’s due to how the game asks more of you the more you play.

I played and 100%'d the original Ridiculous Fishing back when it originally came out and loved it. This remaster is a great re-release of essentially the same game with I guess some fun new stuff. It just sucks that it buries a lot of the new stuff in NG+ that requires a full play-through of the base game first to unlock. I did eventually make my way through the game. Once I did, it was like "Hey you unlocked cool new fish that aren't in the base game! Lose all money and upgrades and play again to see the new fish!" lol no. No way. I would have loved to experience the new content on my first play. Oh well.

The other new content is a daily challenge mode. I tried it once and it was neat I guess. Listen if you've never played Ridiculous Fishing, give it a shot. It's rad. If you've already played it, I don't really think there's anything here to justify playing it again unless you're a gigantic fan.

zach gage knows how to make great mobile games.

Definitely as ridiculous as I remember it. The core gameplay loop is extremely clever and addictive, and progress is quick enough that new things are constantly being added to the mix. I even enjoyed the dash of "story" this time around.

best game of the year is an iphone exclusive

The platonic ideal of phone games, now even better! Some grinding feels unnecessary, but otherwise it’s nearly perfect.

This game is decent. The gameplay loop of trying to get as deep as possible in the sea, try to capture as many fish as you can on the way back and then shoot them while they’re floating in the air is genius. It might sound ridiculous but it totally works. I also like all the options around the game like a shop, kind of a tik tok and a fish bestiary.

The negatives were unfortunately enough to stop playing for the time being at least. I have 2 main issues, the progression system and the lack of certain control options. The game is quite a big grind in different ways. I’m fine with having to discover x amount of fish before going to new fishing spots but I’m not a fan of how the upgrades in the shop have been handled. You can’t fish fully deep unless you buy upgrades for every limit and some of all the upgrade types are too expensive. I hate reaching my upper limit and then having to give up because I don’t have an upgrade that lets me go further. As for the controls, you’re not allowed to use the touchscreen for the first 2 steps of the fishing process. You have to move your iPad/iPhone physically left or right. You can only use the touch screen when shooting or using the menu. It’s more annoying on an iPad. I combined my controller with the touch screen to get around this issue but it shouldn’t be like this. It would have been a far better experience if full touch screen was allowed.

This is a good game that will most likely appeal to the ones who want to play it in short sessions for a long period of time. It could have been much better though.

fun and good! the forced tilt controls are a shame though, especially when it becomes uncalibrated so often. but a good time killer with great haptic feedback.

The most I have enjoyed playing a mobile game since I had an ipod touch

The fact that vanilla RF has been basically broken on new phones for 5+ years is a crime. Still the best vertical phone game ever made, now even better and deeper and more lovingly presented.

Glad that this game works on my iPhone unlike the OG version where it makes everything tiny.

Ridiculous/10
