It's a fun novelty game and probably something that's fun to play with a friend but as a fighting game it's pretty meh it's clear they focused more on the style and soundtrack of the game which in this case isn't a bad thing since I love it's art style.
I wish there was a bit more to its rhythm game within in a fighting game gimmick that's an idea that has a lot of untapped potential and they don't do much without here, your level 3 supers are just a mini rhythm games that will give you a small cutscene if you use it when your opponent is near death but sometimes they can interrupt the flow of your super by adding their own notes during your super which serves as a small challenge but it's pretty easy to avoid.
If this game wasn't Japan exclusive and it's battle system got some refinements I'd like it as a whole but it's more of a eye candy game.

Love the stylization here. a rhythm game and a fighter game in one is an interesting idea and thankfully both modes deliver pretty well for the most part. the game audio is so sharp I'm kind of convinced this was mastered for the express purpose of someone blasting this on their tv stereo speakers or a dedicated speaker set.
Very strange coalition of gameplay styles and sensibilities for the genre, it ends up having a seemingly very low level of entry offering simple execution, strong reversals and neutral tools, so imagine my surprise when I find this lifts more mechanics from garou or kof than it does any other fg, that said it's extremely bare bones, a bit shallow and some of the special inputs are perplexing. Its also a piss easy 1cc on the hardest difficulty so If that's a plus to you, my guy more power to you.
While it's not a fighting game with a lot of depth, this game just oozes style. The cel-shaded graphics are far better aged than most PS1 games. The loading screens are all comics, the vast majority of which are in English, that give hints on what kind of personalities each character has. There's also a huge variety in the characters themselves; a trash man who fights with a broom, a small guy riding a huge monster, an old man that has his wolf fight for him, two girls that fight while one of them is on the other's shoulders, a theme park mascot with a giant machete, et cetera.
The Rhythm of the title comes from a special move that can be activated by hitting HP+HK. Hit the opponent with it, and we get a rhythm minigame similar to DDR. While the 3 bars it takes to activate could be better used with 3 supers, it's interesting to use just to see all of the different animations that show up when you defeat the opponent with it. It'll probably not make it to EVO, and I wouldn't say it's worth the hundreds of dollars it goes for on eBay, but it's certainly a game worth looking into, in the words of SNES Drunk, "anyway you can."

I fucking love this game lol. So much it’s just so cool. Is it the deepest fighter? Fuck no it’s kinda slow and plays fine but there’s not too much to it. I don’t care tho just look at it. Shit looks beautiful and it’s so up my alley. I love the graffiti cell shaded ass art style and this easily has some of the coolest and most creative characters out of my fighter. The slight rhythm game influence is cool as fuck too. Besides I still like how this game plays quite a bit. I like that it feels more simple and easy to get into. Really cool it feels like a great game to get someone into fighters or to learn basic mechanics. I do wish this game had arcade endings tho. These characters are so fucking cool I just wanna learn more about their lore. Really makes me wish this went somewhere but whatever I’m happy this exists and if I ever want an easy fighting game to chill out to this will likely be one of my top picks.
As a fan of both fighting games and rhythm games this is one of the most fun and simple games ever. The combos are super intuitive and easy to pick up. The rhythm game parts are actually easy and fun, but if you're a expert like I am they are baby easy. Compared to like Future 7+ on Arcaea. This is one of those fun Japan exclusive games you randomly find and becomes your favorite. A must play for me
Sure it's pretty lacking in depth, but it sure has style. And that's good for me since I don't really care for the gameplay for fighting games and just want to look at pretty sprites and character models.
I would learn how to play one of these games, but unfortunately I bathe and exercise on a regular basis.

Pretty much a Jet Set Radio fighting game. In general, the colorful cel shaded look, goofy fun party atmosphere, and the wild character designs share an aesthetic. Doesn't help that they were released in the same year. But it's a fun game. Plays akin to the Marvel Vs. Capcom games minus the tag mechanic. Honestly, attacks feel a lot snappier which isn't something you'd expect for most fighters of this console. There's also this Rhythm mechanic where you play a rhythm game to initiate a character's ultimate move. I've never fully pulled one off. And neither has most of the internet. Can't even find a compilation. They're mostly good for chip damage I suppose. But yeah. Surprisingly good game.
