6/10. Somehow reminds me of Kid Icarus Uprising in its gameplay (albeit much simpler and less polished). You can tell the devs REALLY loves Goldorak/Grendizer, as seen in the localization options (only English, French, Italian and Arabic are available, these guys know their audience). It definitely would've become a cult classic if it released 15 years ago.

On a technical level though, it's a disaster (those fucking loading times...). Especially graphically. I'm not a huge graphics guy but screen tearing happening every other second is definitely jarring. Aside from that, the game's main issue come from the useless, barren, huge open areas you'll spend most of your time on. Traversal is painfully slow and there's not much to do other than collect resources. Imo, the game would've been much better off with more linear levels, because the combat is actually kinda fun, although simple. Imo, the open areas only exists to artificially lengthen the game's lifespan.

It works, as in it's not broken but it's embarassing under every aspect. The fighting is extremely simple, the "world" is divided in 5 areas that you can barely distinguish from one another. You rarely have more than 3 enemies to fight against and when it happens, be sure you framerate will drop even on PS5. They have the face to sell this garbage for 50€.

Despite the repetitive, shallow combat and poor optimization, I was actually enjoying this quite a bit. It doesn't look great but it's surprisingly well-animated. The hammy voice acting and script do a great job conveying the charm of a super robot series and there's a real sense of this being a passion project. Unfortunately I ran into a game-breaking bug in the Tokyo stage that stopped my enjoyment in its tracks and even after the game was patched this apparently common bug went unfixed. Real shame.

mah...non ha nulla ed è un mix di robe che hypano nostalgici ma giusto per le scenette, giocarci rimane una esperienza pesante

Fun Combat and does a good job of retelling the first half of the anime it's based off of.

As a game it's pretty thin - closest point of comparison I can make is something like Transformers: Devastation, but if combat was a lot more basic and bosses were way worse. You're gonna do the same bunch of attacks against the same bunch of enemies for about 5 hours and then you're probably never gonna play this again. I can't really hate though, because 1) this is a game based on a 70s monster of the week mecha show! It's entirely appropriate for it to be highly formulaic! And 2) it's just kind of absurd that this game exists in the year 2023 and I think I'm very happy it does, regardless of quality. It's just really cool that this ancient anime was a huge hit in France (Goldorak is such a great localised name, hell yeah) and now we have a French-developed game of it 50 years later. There should be more things like this! If a Voltes V game comes down the pipe a Filipino developer should get to make it. A Latin American dev team should get to try their hand at a KOF game. I demand more products of love!!

I played this with the French dub on as is right and proper, but in the English dub (which is pretty amusingly bad), there is a bit where Duke Fleed word for word quotes a line from The Phantom Menace. I don't know why either.
