Nailed the vibe and aesthetics in every way and I found the platforming really fun as well. Perhaps the highest praise is that I really dug the metroidvania elements which is a rarity for me. Uncovered 80% of the world and collectibles in about an hour.
I briefly checked out the Extra Spicy mode which reminds me of the og Super Mario 2. Anyways, well worth checking out if a screenshot looks appealing to you.

Why anybody would want to spend time on something that so uncritically emulates an almost objectively worse period of video games is beyond me, and the game’s developers haven’t seemed to have come up with a good reason either.

The free platformer game takes the antics of PC gaming from the 80's to provide a totally retro experience (besides the UI) for the curious players. Explore the ominously fascinating underground place, overcome tricky obstacles while avoiding your enemies, unlock powerups and, for its namesake, reach your goal of the game.
Some challenging obstacles can take a number of tries and new thinking but are not as impossible as they look. After all, the game rewards exploration as you get to find items of value for your game score (rewarded with an achievement for full score).
One notable thing to mention about the game would be the graphics, despite depicting the rocky environments, are lush and colorful by the 80's video game standards, which can make the game world feel immersive to a certain level.

I played this game a couple years after it came out but I completely forgot about its existence. I came across it again the other day and decided to give it another go. I do really love the premise of a pure platformer metroidvania, as I usually find combat the worst part of most action-adventure games. It also helps that the game keeps cycle based platforming (the worst kind) to a minimum, only sparsely including it in a handful of rooms. There are a few gripes I have with this game that keeps it from being a standout for me however. The biggest one is that it's too short - it can easily be beaten in less than 2 hours. Likewise it's a bit too easy, I felt like there wasn't enough in the way of precision platforming, or creative mechanics to make it more engaging. The game could've also really used a map even though it's short, a metroidvania without a map is kind of a nightmare. Lastly, at times the game goes for that annoying "I wanna be the guy" fangame trolls that were popular at the time but haven't aged very well.
This was... a platformer game. That's all I can really say about it. It's short, and it plays well, but I'm struggling to remember anything about it. I wasn't a very big fan of the visuals either.
But hey, at least I played it for free, so it's not like I lost anything for playing it. Didn't gain anything either, but oh well.
