Imagine making a game that's basically Top Gun meets anime, and despite however you feel about anime dialogue and its quirks, it still manages to be a well structured story that compliments the gameplay. Then the next numbered entry you make in the series you for some reason forget how to do all that. That's this game.

This game really is a marvel at how people can somehow get worse at telling a story as time goes on. For real like the moment the first cut-scene happens this thing is laughably bad.

yes the story is super corny even for Ace Combat standards, but the graphics and gameplay made up for it.

i'd give this a higher score but i burnt my pizza while I was playing

The scale of the battles in this game is unprecedented for the Ace Combat series and I love it, it truly feels like a battlefield.

Huge missions with planes, tanks, ships in stupid quantities and with a lot of optional operations and very fun gameplay due to the physics and controls being tuned so well, the mission variety is not too shabby either.

The only thing I can criticize in the gameplay aspect is how most of the missions are not very memorable and how overpowered "Allied Attack" is but I played the game on Normal so maybe the latter isn't true for higher difficulties.

Having said this, it's a shame the game didn't have very iconic and memorable missions since this had the potential to be the best Ace Combat game (gameplay-wise) but it's still really good.

I'm amazed at the beautiful graphics and relatively stable framerate they managed to pull with all the units on screen.

The soundtrack is pretty good as always in the franchise but it doesn't stand out.

It has been said a dozen times before but I must say it again, the story is very corny and bad, easily the worst in all of the AC games I have played. The characters are not very likeable either, they are just "there".

Overall, I fully recommend this game for fans of the series, especially if you feel like focusing on the gameplay and not so much on the story.

What more need be said about Ace Combat 6? It’s one of my most beloved games of all time. And like Future Soldier, which I also just beat, I’m not reviewing it because I’m making a video about it soon.

Disappointingly mediocre. A lot of the good elements of old were whittled down or scrapped, gameplay is again a lot heavier, and the story is really unengaging and almost cringe. Cutscenes look god awful too. It's not horrible by any means, just not where the series should have been going, especially after 5 and Zero.

Gameplay wise it is best in the series, also better than ace combat 7 in every way

It's good, but the story is really bad and some missions feel like they drag on waaaaay too much.

This game got me through a lot of hard times in my life. As I've learnt of the other games in the franchise I've re-evaluated it. The story isn't great, the OST only has two bangers compared to multiple ones in other games. It probably has my favorite campaign from gameplay standpoint with the most individual level re-playability.

an overall okay ace combat game. the battles are HUGE this time around, with you essentially juggling multiple smallish missions on a gigantic map. has a meter system where you can summon basically an entire air force worth of guys on whatevers in front of you which is always funny. the plot is certainly something alright, with constant angel dancing and the whole thing taking place on a minor nation in strangereal. would bump this up a point if the idolmaster DLC was still purchasable, but it aint. Overall a decent game, but don't stress out if you are a solely playstation ace combat player and think you are missing out.

Namco please put this game on Steam i had to download a military classified Xenia build that's altered to specifically run this game well and it still had audio issues i will buy as many shovelware anime games as you want me to if you do this

This is supposed to be the "bad" Ace Combat, the one everyone seems to agree that is the worst among the main titles and I really don't get why. I've been on a 30 year journey playing every mainline Ace Combat from Air Combat to Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and I don't see what makes AC6 be so hated.

AC6 reminds me of AC4, both are the first game of its console generation, both look gorgeous, both feature a short campaign of mostly repetitive missions, and both stories are unremarkable yet Ace Combat 04 doesn't get nearly as much flak as 6 does

The core gameplay is the same, fuck the core gameplay has been the same since the first game released in 1993 with some improvements like special weaponry and better controls. So it's not the gameplay and it's not the story then what is it? And I might know the answer and its probably because it's a Xbox 360 exclusive and because it's capped at 30 fps too. To that I say just emulate it, you can play it on PC and even get it to run at 60 fps.

In conclusion, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation is a great game and quality wise probably sits in the middle of the rest of the main games and it's totally not worth skipping if playing though all the mainline titles.

the tech of the xbox 360 allows AC6 to simulate a million enemy and allied planes immediately behind your fighter (a multirole fighter as every mission is like 8 missions in 1), following your every move, never once shooting at each other because they all know you're the player

The cutscenes are hilariously bad, but still a good game.

I don't care to these opinions saying that this game is "bad". Like, why? I truly liked it and it's simpler storytelling actually made it more tangible than the last entry. Like, there were some cringe moments, like when that one girl starts speaking in the mic, however, It tells the story of the Emmeria-Estovakia War very well! I also loved the character of Shamrock, and the allied attacks were a great addition for the gameplay. People should play a game for themselves before they start declaring opinions online.
Also, Keiki Kobayashi works were over the top here! The Liberation of Gracemeria OST gave me goosebumps, it sounded so awesome.

Great game :)

The story is more corny than usual for Ace Combat, but the gameplay is top notch with the largest-scale battles in the series.

I can see why some aircraft and military enthusiasts may like this game but I find the controls too complicated and couldn't beat the 9th mission.

Pretty alright as far as ace combat goes. 6 completely falls flat from a story perspective with uninteresting characters, awkward writing, middling voice acting, poor facial animations, and a ridiculous overuse of the line "dance with the angels" to a cringe degree. From a gameplay standpoint it's great, given that it's ace combat. The first half or so places a bit too much focus on ground targets which can get pretty dull but it picks up later with more mission variety. While the game obviously doesn't look as good as 7, it still looks great and the missile trails in particular look very cool during the larger dogfights. My favorite aspect of 6 is that your team is actually competent and helpful and you can tell they're fighting alongside you all the time. While the story and mission dialogue isn't good in general, Garuda 2 is a good wingman and I did feel for him when he revealed his family died during the war. The music was still good, but unmemorable by ace combat standards aside from Liberation of Gracemeria.

"Gentlemen, I do not believe a lady on Earth would be able to resist us now."

Replayed it for the first time in many years.
The story is embarrassing and cringe, the battles are massive and the objective-based mission structure actually allows you to plan your loadout. Very straightforward and arcadey but also with a more realistic touch thanks to the gloomy environment and planes that have more weight than those in 7.
Both gun and air to ground weapons are grossly OP giving it a very fun core gameplay despite the forgettable missions.
Replaying a 2007 game and seeing it have essentially the same ideas as 7 (2019) minus a few improvements on the newer release (and to be fair, 6 is already very similar to the previous releases) gives some hindsight on how creatively bankrupt the franchise as a whole is, but despite that I'll probably be first in line for the next game.

Ace Combat 6 is simultaneously the franchise's forbidden fruit and underachieving middle child. After finally getting a hold of an Xbox 360 to play it though, I feel like 6 is mostly a display of wasted potential. Project Aces probably had lofty goals in mind with its massive battlefields, missions you can tackle in any way you want, and online multi-player, but as deadlines approached and unfamiliarity with the hardware set in, they began to cut corners wherever possible, aspects that unfortunately make Ace Combat fans want to keep coming back. The story, mission variety, purchasable planes and even the framerate stability all take cuts to deliver the most underwhelming and forgettable game in the series. However, like any Ace Combat game, it still has a charm that makes it fun to play.

This game is Ace Combat its awkward puberty phase, having both some of its best and worst story moments, and some really interesting gameplay elements, and really bad ones. The quality of 6 is very inconsistent, yet; I think if you are a fan of the games you should not skip out on this one. It has so much that you have come to like from these games, but it also misses the mark in many ways. Another gripe I have with it is frame rate lock.

There is so much I dont like, but more stuff that I like and I think that makes this game worth a try.

What a great game. I loved the changes like more missiles and checkpoint implementation that makes the bigger missions just more enjoyable to play They should made this way back after the PS1 games as we have these longer missions since 04. The dog fights are amazing in AC6, the new IA systems pretty good and responsive and even the ground missions were made way more tolerable. The plot is a bit of a mess though but the cutscenes are still very nice and mission 9 a highlight of the series.

this introduces me to the videogames

+THIS IS THE 2ND FLAGSHIP MARIGOLD, OUR FLEET WILL DO EVERYTHING IT CAN TO SUPPORT YOU!

somewhere, buried deep in this game, there's a fantastic game but it frankly gets pull down by a lot of hasty decisions they made

its the shortest campaign on top of having the least variety in terms of scenarios for the whole series, its like they were really into their new gimmick on having large scale combat zones without thinking about proper pacing

as for the story, well, unlike the previous game where they give you a good in-depth setting about the story of Belka, Osea and most of Strangereal, you mostly get some folk tales about Emmeria and Estovakia having a broken economy in the past, barely even addressing the actual war itself or the logistics behind it to trigger it

but it has Idolmaster skins and the Liberation of Gracemeria is one of best songs in the series, so i can't hate it

it was the awesome start to my ace combat adventures and loved every bit of it. its a shame we cannot get the dlc aircraft skins anymore

It's alright. Nothing special.

"Go Dance with the Angels!" Despite how overly cheesy this one is compared to its predecessors, I can't help but feel AC6 manages to come across as just that much more sincere for it, which is an achievement in a series so already dripping in sincerity as it is. The large scale of the battlefields encouraging different approaches to missions, as well as your hyper-competent allies results in an experience that has yet to be truly replicated by the series since.
