AC2 is definitely an upgrade on the original, with an engaging story and a much more likable protagonist in Ezio. Exploring Italy and doing the optional dungeon platforming missions were a total blast, but this is again bogged down by the Desmond sections and a total descent into incomprehensible sci-fi shit in the last act.
I replayed it recently, the narrative is great but the thing with games is that the story doesnt matter if the gameplay is shit. the combat is a bit clunky, I love the stealth and wish it was more prevalent in the newer games. the freerunning feels kinda clunky too and I fucking hate trailing missions. its my second favorite assassin creed game but it doesnt hold up today very much
A mostly okey title that does everything it sets out to do right. It's a shame that nothing of it feels interesting to me. As a sequel to the original, it feels less close to Assasin's Creed 1 than it does Prince of Persia, especially if we go by the tone. It also feels closer to The Da Vinci Code than The Kingdom of Heaven, which flushes all the themes of the original game down the toilet. Still, it's a fun ride if you can stand Ezio's shenanigans and the collecting.
Well, I've done the 100% achievements for Assassin's Creed II again.
This time around, it wasn't nearly as fun as before. Nostalgia might have gotten to me in a way. Ass-Creed II has some really neat features and some really cool ideas on where to take the series, but it's also extremely clunky and rough around the edges in almost every way.
Besides the story and voice acting, Assassin's Creed II has some sort of flaw in any particular category. Collectables are annoying, combat clunky, platforming unresponsive, and much, much more.
For what it is, I can appreciate Assassin's Creed II. Its influence on the gaming industry is noted through the following decade of Assassin's Creed games aping its design, as well as other open-world titles to come afterward. Yet the issues that plague this experience cannot be understated. Hopefully moving forward, we can see more refinement on the formula as I continue to play every Assassin's Creed game in 2021.

A game that hasn't held up as well as I'd like to remember. Though it was a massive improvement upon its predecessor and a fun game on its own right, it also fails to capture the promise of its ambition and tends to take a lot of shortcuts to achieve its lofty goals. A playful attitude and a moody atmosphere gives it its own charm, but little else.
