Pretty much everything in this was amped up in Battlefield 2. Like that this one too never had a campaign but I loved playing this many times back when I was a kid, so it has a special place for me in my heart.

I can def. see that this one HAS aged, and it may be hard for new people to enter to it at first especially because there's so many good players due to being old. (Also, timezone will determine how many games with players you'll find)

For the time, impressive with what they were able to accomplish. There were some maps that were almost a little too big in my opinion, although to be fair I was playing with default settings so I'm sure you can crank up the number of CPUs to fill them out. Only thing I would have liked to see was a little more variety with the factions, however adding in the Africa campaign is a nice touch when most WWII games overlook it.

First PC shooter I ever played as a kid. I was really young and always crashed the planes. I never could get online working because we had dial up so I just played AI missions with no mods countless times with a big ass smile.
Really really good for its time. I love the Normandy Beach map I could play that all day. Despite its flaws its fun and I have revisited it multiple times. If you consider playing it do make sure to understand its old and janky but that was the time.
Was a sensational ground work for the battlefield series. On its own a pretty enjoyable large scale shooter

BF1942 is the origin point for a now legendary franchise. It was the first time that an FPS had ever existed on such a large scale and had a ton of variety in terms of attack and defense. Maps were huge and unique, the guns and vehicles were varied and exciting, and the online/multiplayer pacing was always appreciated.
The opening to BF1942 is also the best opening to a game ever, and no that is not debate.

Okay so for some inexplicable reason this was downloaded on every PC in my middle school and it was a blast, kinda chunky and I suck at FPS but a good memory all things considered

My first battlefield game ever, the OG, the one that started it all, you had to be there... Battlefield 1942 was one of the games that redefined multiplayer shooters back then, controlling different vehicles and entire battleships was mind-blowing for it's time, unfortunately it might not have aged that well so newcomers might not like the game or become confused but it is a solid game from the 2000s that allows you to play as several factions from WW2 in big maps that feel alive, I spent so much time on this game.
First game I ever touched, many hours played, nostalgia hits hard and the first Battlefield. It deserves no less than a 3 stars from me.

Alright it was kind of a mess, but it was the sheer SCALE of it all (for the time) that bowled us over. This whole era of online games clicked so well for me and my friends probably due to us finally beginning to have semi-consistent broadband connectivity.

I spent years of my childhood playing Modded online PVP maps with my brother on this game. He was a senior member of KIA clan & codded his own maps. The best Battlefield ever created.
At first I thought it was a good old game, but in the process of passing the game I was disappointed, very stupid ai, these bots just stand still, they don’t respond to commands, while you captured one point, the enemy is already at another and my bots just often stood still, now this part is not playable.
