Used to always love playing this at my neighbors' as a kid, so really cool to finally own this. As far as platformers go, this is one of the good ones IMO. Solid difficulty curve as the game goes on, plenty of secrets to discover, and the main mechanic of jumping on boxes and stuff feels good. Crash's handing isn't as smooth as I'd like, especially doing 180° turns in the air. Knowing where you'll land is iffy at times too, sometimes you can't pinpoint his shadow. But good game all around.
A perfect score for me is a game that lives up to every expectation I have of it or can barely be improved, moreso than being better than other games of lower ratings. Crash 2 is exactly that. It's still one of my favourite games in this case, but it's no pinnacle of gaming. But it wouldn't feel right to give anything but a 5 given the fact that only the bosses could use some improvement -- And that's discounting N.Gin and Tiny who ARE nothing but good. So yeah. Great game, the best Crash game, in fact.
The absolute pinnacle of linear 3D platforming. Controls are tight and feel good to execute, levels are interesting and challenging. 100%ing it feels extremely rewarding with the various difficult gem challenges and there's very very few gimmick levels that the sequels run rampant with. Only real knock against it is the weak boss battles but the focus of this game is the tight platforming and clever level design which it executes flawlessly. Truly a pure game for gamers.
Crash Bandicoot 2 is a straight evolution from the first game. Better control, more abilities, better visuals, and even more content. I still see myself playing this game to this day and it never getting old and still standing the test of time. Either through the N Sane trilogy or on the PS1 this game is a classic through and through.
This game is the summation of what Crash Bandicoot is at its core - corridor level design, poorly-explained collectathon elements, and a handful of fun gimmicks to vary it up. Crash 2 is just pure nostalgia for me, but as a game, it just doesn't hold up as well as other games of its era (particularly Spyro). It's only a couple of hours long, so there's no real harm in checking it out, but don't expect much. Still a vast improvement over the original, though.
