Bold of EA to, after completely gutting Dead Space to turn it into a garbled action mess of predatory bullshit and then completely gutting the studio behind it after jobbing them onto a shitty battlefield spin-off, come back and act like I should give a shit that they are propping up it's corpse because horror is noticeably profitable now

Honestly, go fuck yourself

We don't need this but you can still enjoy the remake if you like quality of bluepoint's remakes and filter your opinion with your favorite critic or streamer. Also they ruined military suit (lvl 6) in this game

I was initially afraid of this remake. There were a few things I didn’t like from what I’ve seen in the gameplay footage. Light works like ass and sometimes you couldn’t see shit, like really, absolutely NOTHING, even though you used the flashlight.

Turns out it’s not that bad, although still whack. But at least playable.

So yeah, really liked the game. Not worth the full price at all. Didn’t really need it either. Rebooting 3 or doing 4 would’ve been much better, but it’s better than nothing. I’m glad I played this with my friend, so I didn’t have to buy it. Maybe get it when it’s 20-30 bucks.

It comes with a lot of pros and cons compared to the original, too, but I think I like the remake a bit more.

DS2 > DSR > DS

Talvez o melhor remake que eu já joguei? No momento é o que eu sinto e com vários motivos. Não há um único aspecto que não seja aprimorado em relação ao original e o conteúdo novo é sensacional.

As a remake, Dead Space is fantastic, more so than even Resident Evil 2. It improves what is needed and keeps the rest. It's been a decade since I last played it, but it feels exactly as how I remembered it, including visuals that in line with my impressions of it at the time. The gameplay however reminded me of why I never pursued the series past the first. The really close camera with fairly stiff controls and the persistently dark surroundings doesn't mesh well with enemies that pop out of everywhere and are often faster than the player. It gets frustrating. And on top of that the sound design is constantly blaring. Either with tense music or noises of enemies that often aren't even there. I get why a horror game has this, but it also wears on you when you constantly have look in every direction even when backtracking. And in zero gravity it becomes downright awful as there's no indicator of where the enemies are, not even the sound really works to pinpoint them. Have the music relax if noting's there and if there's a sound of a creature it should be in play. And everything you do kind of feels like filler. A lot of technobabble as you go from one broken contraption to the nest and you have to fix it by going to every area in that specific sector. It really feels like doing the exact same thing over and over.

The look of the game is perfect for what it's recreating and there are no issues there. But whatever engine or graphics tweaks they use to make this run is another thing. A lot of textures will switch between the usual high res and some pixelated mess. And it doesn't seem to have to do with distance from the camera or even the texture as a whole, but rather blotches here and there. Some times even the models themselves seem to vanish in parts into some low res nightmare in parts. I tried different settings, but couldn't really pinpoint it. But I expect it has o do with DLSS, and it's another reason as to why that shouldn't exist in the first place.

An outstanding remake of a game that, if you asked me a year ago, I would have told you didn't need a remake. Dead Space isn't like Resident Evil 2 where the original was a ps1 survival horror that would push most modern players away in it's opening minutes. No, Dead Space is a game that you can puchase on Steam and largely feels pretty modern to this day; so how do you successfully remake it?

The answer is by adding... more. There's more story, a completely re-written script that overhauls character arcs and makes every character much more pertinent in the story, as well as adding voice acting to isaac, making him feel like he's actually participating in the story. There's more gameplay, the zero-g segments have been expanded and redesigned to better fit the later entries in the series, and the ishimura now allows you to go back wherever you like, whenever you like, and by giving you security passes as the game goes on it adds a metroidvania-esque element to exploration. It even has more of the great art design that the first boasted (though of course, like the gameplay, it's not on the level of the sequel).

And what does all of this 'more' result in? This is easily THE way to play Dead Space, and considering that it comes with the second game, which is my favorite game of all time, you can't lose! I just hope that this works as a good proof of relevance and EA let's them make an all-new Dead Space.

Without a doubt, one of the most impressive remakes I've ever seen. I basically went radio silent after they announced it and avoided trailers. It was such a pleasant surprise for a classic to be remade with this much love and care. The new character development, dialogue, missions and cut scenes were perfect.

Enjoyably grotesque. Feels more lavish at the expense of pacing and the paranoid tone of the original. Changes to the structure of the game seem worthwhile but end up being zero-sum additions, but Motive have the good sense to tidy up the back third of the game. I miss when these characters were either silent or complete assholes.

this game is very hard for me to formulate an opinion on I love the original to death and I think this game is unneeded I don't think the original is that old that it requires a remake however yes I do like the "seamless" transitions however they bring a lot of dead space 2 vent hallway loading areas to mind
I think the weapon changes were uneeded the contact beam did not need a new primary fire and the line gun mines didn't need to be lasers other than some writing changes regarding some side characters in the original the story hasn't changed to such a degree it's unrecognizable
but I don't really see an advantage of playing this over the original unless you really wanna hear gunner wright be the best voice actor in the game.
there's a lot more I could go into really such as the removal of the turret section (seriously it wasn't that hard or bad people just suck at aiming) kinesis being sidelines even further the dead space 2 zero g controls. but it's mostly intact from dead space 2008 so I really can't complain. I'm just hoping that it ends here nobody from the original games are working at this studio as EA owns the IP I don't want a dead space 2 remake please do not make one. Remake extraction if you want to go ahead all the assets are here make it a game like this and I don't think the people at EA know how to make dead space 4 I wouldn't trust them with it.

A horrifying space odyssey of greed, guilt, and grief in the midst of an overwhelming alien threat. Returning to this one was a fun ride, despite playing through the trilogy for the first time a year or two ago. As a result, much of my playthrough of the remake felt like a re-tread. However, I was surprised by how much Motive was able to mix things up enough to keep things fresh for me the second time around.

What else would you really want from a solid remake, after all?

Unfortunately, I was let down quite a bit by technical difficulties on the PC side of things (of course, a patch fixing the major ones had to come out as soon as I finished it), but all in all, Motive did a fantastic job making this horror classic whole again.

Dare I also say, perhaps the best Resident Evil game that Capcom never made?

8/10

I’ve always used Resident Evil 2 (2019) as a prime example of how remakes should be approached but now I believe I’ll be using Dead Space (2023) as another example...
This remake was more than just enhanced visuals and better performance. The changes introduced here made Isaac Clarkes journey to survivor feel brand new mostly due to objectives being significantly different which made the game feel fresh while introducing side missions which gave the Ishimura more life and added more exploration and a brand new ending that sets up this universe in a whole new way. I really hope Motive Studios decides to completely recreate Isaac Clarkes journey through all 3 games because they are approaching this in a brilliant and very unique way and if they choose to do that, I’m all aboard for it.

This game was super fire as someone who has not played the original. Gameplay was fun and hearing the changes made to this game make it feel like it would be impossible to go back to the original. Can't wait to play the rest of the series.

The best version of Dead Space, the face change is weird but everything has been improved.

It doesn’t really matter how good this may or may not be, it’s extremely perverse for EA to dig up the corpse of this franchise so it can be sold to us for $60/$70 after EA maliciously killed the franchise and the studio that made it.

The Dead Space Remake is incredible. True to the original in pretty much every sense while adding or changing things in subtle ways to make it feel like a new standalone product. Being a huge fan of the original I really couldn't be happier with this remake. This isn't a case of a dev team not understanding what made the original amazing and butchering it. It is actually the exact opposite. They went as far as to gather a bunch of die-hard Dead Space fans for this remake to make sure they never strayed too far from the series' roots and it shows because everything here makes perfect sense within the context of the franchise as a whole. I never felt like anything was downgraded at all.

Gameplay was much improved due to the peeling system, the intensity director, the newly interconnected Inshimura, the ds2 kinesis system, the ds2 zero gravity, the new circuit breakers, and the incredible lighting and shadows. Combat felt much less like a flow chart where you just shoot a slashers leg off then finish them off with some shots to the arm. Now, with the ds2 kinesis coupled with the peeling system, you could rip the arm right off a slasher before its even been fully removed and impale them with it. Making shots to the arm far more rewarding and, many times, even more ideal than just shooting the legs. The zero gravity segments and the bosses are vastly improved due to incorporating DS2s zero gravity mechanics. The lighting and circuit breakers in this game make most encounters even more intense than before since many times you'll be in pitch black darkness and need to rely on the amazing audio design and the flashlights from your engineering tools to help. Being forced to choose what to provide power always put me on edge knowing that I'd have to sacrifice something else in return. Exploration is much more rewarding this time around since nodes never need to be wasted on dead cells. New upgrade paths for many weapons and they even added side quests to flesh out the world-building.

The story gets some added content that again helps flesh out the world and characters in some pretty interesting ways. Mercer in particular was way more memorable this time around. This game also does a better job of showing the influence the marker has on the other characters in the game like Hammond and some others. But what's great about the remake is that they all feel true to the series as a whole and are things that clearly aren't done just for the sake of it like some other remakes.

Overall, this remake is incredible and the vast majority of fans of the original should be very happy that Motive has done an amazing job at recreating this horror classic. I'll never forgive EA for what they did to this series but Motive has gained my trust and I'd be happy to play whatever else they do with this series moving forward.

Holy shit. Somehow they managed to make this remake even better than the original.

The original is one of my favorite games of all time. My expectations were succeeded

Had my doubts about this remake for a while, but I honestly believe this to be one of the greatest videogame remakes ever. Its at the same level as the original Resident Evil remake for me, takes absolutely everything from the original game and leaves it untouched while adding so much more to the gameplay and story ultimately making the whole experience that much fresher, and better. Very excited to jump into New Game + to see what secrets I can uncover on another run.

It's a good game, nice graphics, good gameplay and also has some nice moments...

But because I'm not a big fan of the original and also the sequels (I've never played any Dead Space). That one didn't get me that deep, but it's a good game.

This is the best way to experience the game (on console preferably atm I experienced bugs on PC) - the USG Ishimura is now fully interconnected and seamless, narrative has a more sensible through-line and logic with changes. The worst part of the original the ADS cannon section is completely different and better. Bummed it removed the nuclear green balls puzzle but it was goofy. Just a good remake since almost every change is for the better, some dialogue is iffy like Hammonds new VA at times, and a weird line of dialogue after a boss fight. Not without issues though on a replay of both the original and this remake I've noticed hit registration and enemy feedback in the remake is significantly worse from weapons missing shots even when aiming dead on, to enemy actions that were previously in the game in the original now gone e.g. headshots causing a frenzy state. Better transitions from standing to limping etc. It's all a lot worse looking directly between the remake and the original. So for 2023 If you're unsure which survival horror remake to go with, pick Resident Evil 4.

I love Dead Space 1. It's one of my favorite games of all time. That original game is still scary and unsettling to play through no matter how much I replay it. So when I heard DS1 was gonna get a remake, I was confused. I don't DS1 aged poorly and still looks great today. If anything, I would've preferred a new game in the series. Well, I finished my first playthrough of the game and I'm shocked how good it is.

The best way to describe this remake is basically, it got the RE1 remake treatment. It same exact game with add-ons. One of them being that Ishimura is interconnected, meaning that you have the freedom to backtrack previous areas for resources and such. This is something the original never did as it was fully linear game. It's quite nice being able explore all of USG Ishimura while enemies still attack you. Another change is Isaac being voiced. Its neat, getting to hear his dialogue with other characters and reactions throughout makes it a whole new experience.

Not much to say about the gameplay. It's Dead Space 2 combat in DS1. The Zero G areas also similar to DS2 so its not as annoying I guess. I'm sure some new things I haven't tried since I was kinda playing this like the OG.

Story was greatly expanded uopn. You can do side missions in this game that further adds to the story and world of Dead Space which I really liked. The setting of DS is personal favorite of mine so more of that is always welcomed.

I don't know what I can say that I disliked about this game. I'm not a huge fan of Isaac's face, it feels very inconsistent with how he appeared in Dead Space 2 & 3. Like yeah, he's suppose to look like the VA but that's all the more reason why I don't like it when they try to match character's face with the VA cuz to me, it restricts creatvity.

I'm genuinely surprised that remake from EA still managed to be super faithful to the original 2008 game. No cut content or anything like that. I think Dead Space Remake is prime example of a remake should be. I'm happy still say that the remake of one my favorite games managed to be as good as the original.

Takes everything from the original and makes it ALL better, the interconnected ship being a major plus

Really, really great remake. Takes the original game and elevates everything.

One of the best remakes I’ve played, kinda wanted them to expand the story a bit more but overall I loved it :)

Make us whole.

Nice remake, but it highlights the problems of the original. And of course wokefies the original...

I hesitated to give this game the full five-star treatment, but then I realized I played this game for about 12 hours straight and the smile never vanished from my face the entire time. The restraint of adding anything too new or game-changing is superb as the original game is pretty perfect as it is. The little QOL additions and enhancements to the story with light touches go a long way.

I'm still a bigger fan of Dead Space 2, but dang, remember when games could be like this without anyone online components? All killer no filler.

Dead Space Remake is a very difficult game to discuss for me because on one hand its an exceptional remake that was clearly made with passion that very hard to ignore but on the other hand, the original Dead Space came out in a generation that arguably is still very modern.

Despite being released 7 or so years after the original, Resident Evil Remake was leaps and bounds ahead of its original and can be easily argued to be the greatest video game remake. The Dead Space remake, made 15 years after the original still doesn't feel like such an impressive leap. Does that mean its a bad game? No...but its just very difficult to articulate how I feel about it. If we look at the more contemporary Resident Evil remakes as a comparison I'd say that Dead Space Remake is slightly ahead of RE2 Remake and leaves RE3 Remake in the dust (where it belongs).

I do have a few gripes about this Remake that ultimately led me to this score.

The game wasn't designed for the new "Impossible Mode" where if you die once your entire save is deleted. I don't have an issue with modes like this, but there are way too many sections in this remake especially the beginning that are just slow drawn out in-game scenes that can't be skipped. Not even counting the "Impossible Mode", playing a new game + file immediately after my original playthrough really made me notice how tedious a number of sections of the game are to sit through. Hopefully some kind of skip function is patched in but I doubt that will be possible.

As much as I did appreciate that the game gives you an incentive to replay the game to unlock a totally new Ending only found in the Remake's New Game+ mode, I just would like to state without really spoiling anything that this ending was kind of unnecessary and not really worth immediately jumping back in to experience.

I also think Isaac not being a silent protagonist in the Remake might have been a bit of a mistake. I can understand why they chose to do this, but I feel like it actually makes some of the story less coherent than the original.
