often seen as a roadblock for alternative, which is admittedly much better, but this is still a very well produced slice of life vn with a mostly fun cast and a good sense of humor

It's so hard replaying this game because it gives me hardcore feels

I didn't know what lacrosse was before

A lot of people think that Muv-Luv Extra & Unlimited are just "the parts you play to get to Alternative (and Unlimited definitely is that) but Muv-Luv Extra is a decently compelling comedic & dramatic story that builds a solid foundation for the rest of it, taken on it's own it might be a little weak, but it's just as fun if not more fun in some ways

Docking one star because no Marimo route

Well, i can't say i'm a fan of dating sims and i was nervous when i first started because everyone was hyping me for alternative but never talk about extra. Now that i played it i can say that this was so much fun. Yes, there were times that i was bored but the comedy aspect of the game is really enjoyable and i loved every character (not you Sumika). Extra was much more comedy and sol oriented but it did have really good serious scenes too and i liked it. Especially Chizuru route was really good, i recommend everyone to read it because the psychology and family issues of Chizuru really hits hard and Takeru really grows up in this route. Meiya and Miki's route is also good.

Unlimited was really shocking for me in the beginning and i knew that this game is getting serious and i liked it. The new setting was really promising and i recently started to like mecha genre so it was really on the spot. I think the beauty of Unlimited comes from how our main character was growing and his monologues were really awesome. His inner conflict about dream and reality and the circumstances he is in was really good.

Overall i had a fun time reading and it was worth it to get every route possible. I'm really looking forward to reading Alternative.

-Extra-
It's your standard high school romance visual novel, but it's definitely one of the better ones out there. There were some moments and scenarios that I didn't like, but many more that I loved. Really great overall.

Overall - 9/10

Sumika's Route: 9/10
Ayamine's Route: 8/10
Miki's Route: 10/10
Meiya's Route: 5/10
Chizuru's Route: 10/10

-Unlimited-
A very interesting shift in the series. A few moments that didn't really feel right, even for Unlimited's setting, but overall really enjoyable. Definitely has me excited for Alternative.

fun and funny what else is there to say, i love women

this game is absolutely fucking necessary to understand alternative if you skip this you are an actual subhuman

You're apparently not supposed to not like Extra and that it's just there to set everything up for the rest of the story. I enjoyed it because my brain is broken and made out of mush.

Incredible setup to one of the best visual novels of all time in Muv-Luv Alternative. 4/5 because Extra is weak when you first get into Muv-Luv and Unlimited is better, but upon rereads Extra has more content and has more interesting ties to Alternative, whereas Unlimited's one single route with slightly different endings make it a slog to 100%

Years after finishing it I am still in awe of just how well crafted this story really is.

"Save in the name of true love" might be the coolest tagline ever.

Amazing work that stands on it's own as a great story. But as a bonus, it's also build up to peak fiction.

really average eroge. unlimited, in a way, is worse than extra. it's the definition of "edging".

MUCH better than what I was expecting. Extra was half funny (Fucking initial d guy) half boring (Fucking lacrosse) and I can't quite say I liked it. 'Dramatical' scenes aren't for me.

Unlimited on the other hand was fun. The whole military training thing didn't bore me at all and was quite easy to read. Also It made me want to read Alternative asap.

Yeah for zero expectations they weren't "roadblock" or "filler" but I need to read Alternative before making assumptions

If someone mentions lacrosse ever again I'll fucking chop their heads off

Most people will tell you to play this game so you can play Muv-Luv Alternative, but I'm going to tell you that this game is just as worth playing as Alternative is.

I wish more people played this game to enjoy Extra and Unlimited. So many people don't care about the first two parts to this Muv-Luv trilogy and I think that's a damn shame. I really enjoyed both Extra and Unlimited, and just because Alternative is one of the best VNs out there, doesn't mean you should feel like you need to rush through this one to play it.

Extra was dumb enough for me to realise I don't need to take it too seriously and it worked as very nice light reading whenever I felt up to it.

Unlimited was such a great experience. It's a great subversion of expectations if you don't know what you're getting into. Granted, most people will likely know what Muv-Luv is about, but I didn't!!!!! ....until others ruined it for me but whatever.

unlimited isn't too much better than extra honestly, most attempts at more heavy-handed messaging feel a bit frail but it is better paced. That i will not dispute

the comedy actually lands most of the time, even the horny shit is funny however questionable it may be. the finales to both halves were way more affecting than i'd expected them to be and make the less interesting parts more than forgivable in retrospect. the final 2 or so hours of extra evoke this funny feeling only good high school media can evoke (even though they weren't even set in the school but it's a high school story overall you get my meaning.) it's silly, convenient etc but effective anyhow - same deal with the ending to unlimited which should come across as hamfisted (it is hamfisted lol they even flashback you moments that'd justify the notion every girl is into takeru) but it's quite clever in that it makes you choose the character you care about the most for the highest possible impact so i went to sleep with an aching heart thinking damn imagine if they didn't follow up on this and this was the ending period that'd been a bit heartbreaking but everyone and their moms loves alternative so
idk i like this way more than i "should" you know. but who cares art is subjective baby

i like most characters and va
Yeah

Honestly I enjoyed both of these a lot of these a lot more than I was expecting to, especially Extra
I had a lot of fun with it, it really got to the part of me that loves SOL lmao. I almost didn’t bother with the other routes but I’m glad I did as I liked them and probably wouldn’t have found myself appreciating the full cast as I do
Unlimited was really cool too, I just wish I realised I was reading the exact same endings but with different heroines before it was too late

Really looking forward to reading Alternative
