When compared to other expansions, The Isle of Armor is almost insulting due to the very clear amount of little work put into it, especially considering the asking price. So far, it's my least favorite release of the year. Extremely disappointed.

This is not perfect, and man is it short, but it gives enough of a glimpse into how the base game could’ve been that it makes you mad that it isnt. The characters are more expressive, Pokemon can follow you, the music is better. Of course the graphics largely arent great, the slow down when youre online is real bad, fuck Max Raids, and the Diglett thing starts off sorta fun but finishing it is annoying, and the story content is real short.

I dunno. Building blocks I guess

Pretty fun, but I definitely liked the characters and the mechanics more than the story or the random stuff they put in. Finding Digletts isn't exactly high on my list of priorities here.

The story part of it is pretty short, but in general it's a pretty neat addition. The area feels far more like what the wild area should have been in the first place, although the abrupt weather changes still exist and are jarring.

I like that there's some story and gameplay integration going on here. The super fast Slowpoke's have priority in battle, and another character cheats in a match by placing toxic spikes at the start of the match.

There's a decent amount of quality of life stuff here too, such as a character who will reset EVs to 0, a way to turn any compatible Dynamax mon into a Gigantamax mon, ability to make apricot balls etc.

Following Pokémon also make a nice comeback, although it feels a little unpolished.

It also suffers from level scaling. I guess it's supposed to be accessed directly after beating the champion in the main game, but due to when it came out, most people will have level 100's by now, making it a breeze to sweep through. They did get by this by making Kubfu the only Pokémon you can use in the final gauntlet, but it's so easy to get to 100 with EXP candy that grinding is no longer needed, kinda ruining the whole "bonding" thing you're supposed to do.

Adds a decent amount of post-game content and QoL updates to the base game. The new wild area is a definite improvement over the one in the base game, and gives more incentive to explore it. Other than that it's just more SWSH, which is pretty good.

Works better as a way to expand on options for the multi-player than as a single-player campaign.

Thats The Most boring DLC i ever saw. No story. No exploration rewards. And a massive Wild area with no charisma.

buying dlc was a mistake

Ngl doing this whole DLC with just Urshifu after you get it is pretty damn fun. Really made me love the little guy. Also Scyther is here.

Not enough content with too MANY fetch quests, confusing map and to this day I don't know where shit is cause there is no point in leaving the Dojo after the 1 hour "story".

Urshifu is cool but makes no sense, overall bad DLC besides it making ease of access to certain things

It's not the lengthiest expansion, but it's still a pretty good 8 hours of content, more if you actually care about filling out the dex or getting all the digletts.
The new characters continue on SW/SH's trend of having some of the best characters - Avery/Klara are great rival additions that also show off the "minor/major" league system of gyms a bit more. Aside from that, this DLC has a vastly improved wild area - biome diversity, a sea to surf around, a few small caves, digletts to search for with rewards for finding them, and a few character cameos scattered about. Other positives are the 100+ new Pokemon available, more raid dens, some higher leveled content (although the level scaling isn't perfect - trainers don't evolve their Pokemon even if they're 60+ with scaling, and if you're too high of a level you'll just breeze through the content), along with a nice postgame episode featuring the best rival/professor Hop.

honestly it was okay, nothing special but klara is cute so that gives it a pass

enjoyed the expansion a lot more than I expected— it feels like a bigger, better version of the best part of Sword and Shield, without any of the extra stuff that was disappointing in the main games. old Pokemon returning is fun too, of course.

Pretty epic how gamefreak or the pokemon company cut off and charged extra for a tiny post-game that the ds games would've had + usually way more bundled in day one for free not to mention copy and pasting more 3d models from x and y back in, like for fucks sakes if your gonna ransom off pokemon at least make them look different (they'll carry these lifeless x and y statues in every pokemon game till the end of time I swear to god)

The first leg of the SWSH DLC is pretty neat! Honestly I kinda get the complaints about how it should've been the postgame to begin with, but let's be real here. A generation ago Gamefreak would've charged you the price of a whole extra game where you'd play through 90% of the same content to get to the shiny new postgame. Actually I'm pretty sure that was the case for a lot of third versions/whatever the heck USUM was... it's still not optimal, but it's actually kind of a step up for the series.

Anyway, the Isle of Armor is way more fun to explore than the initial Wild Area, and it really is fun to hunt down the gym leaders' hangout spots. Also the new characters were fantastic, even if the story was kind of basic. I would also take a bullet for my karate kid bear son. On the downside, the Diglett hunt started out fun but quickly became a nightmare, I still don't like raids that much since I usually play single player, and god, it's so hard to find Clauncher because Sharpedos keep hunting me down and I'm tired!!

Anyway, I hear that if you buy it before completing the game, it's accessible as soon as you can go to the Wild Area, so I'm planning on getting Shield at some point so I can have the "full" experience after Crown Tundra comes out and I'll see how the game is then. Look forward to that if you're following me I guess.

This fucking sucks as well as the main game I don´t know why did I pay for a beta twice hope Game Freak goes bankrupt

unlike the crown tundra i dont think this is an improvement at all really, its kind of just fucking boring. literally the only thing i enjoyed was the new characters, klara/avery and mustard are all pretty funny and have better characterization than most of the characters in the base game. not a fan of kubfu and urshifu, and again like the crown tundra's open area, its not at all up to standard of what it should be, just a slight improvement of the empty and ugly base game's wild area. oh also the clothes they added were nice at least, but yeah this kinda just exists.

Much like the base game, it was just all right. Seeing more Pokémon return was cool, and the open-world area the DLC is set in was a big improvement on the base game's Wild Area, but it still lacked a lot of the charm old Pokémon content had. The new legendary Urshifu was very cool, but it bugged me to have to grind for candies to level the Kubfu up to progress with the story. Not much to say about this one but it was passable.

I really can't tell if this was an improvement over the base game or not because my brain has gone soft after the hours of diglett hunting.

im not one of those classic pokemon fans i havent been in this series very long but i really love how open everything is. fuck routes fuck all that nonsense everything just connects here and its so fun to explore. i love pokemon as just a big wilderness. so fun

Kubfu is one of my favorite Pokemon of all time now but also I said "that's it?" by the time it was over.
I gasped when I got the Dubious Disc, because that meant Porygon was back.

bad gamefreak go sit in the corner and think about what you did

Pokemon following you is badly programmed and the DLC itself was uninteresting beside a few cutscenes and obtaining Kubfu.

Me: I want following Pokémon to return!
Monkey's paw: *curls*

Seriously, how do you mess up this feature so bad??
