This game was pretty bad, but I was playing a lot of Castlevania games, so I was determined to complete it. The story is a different canon to the main games, so be prepared for some bizarre interpretations of the characters. It feels very different from other Castlevanias in that it seems like it's set up to allow you to explore areas when you get new powerups, but it's never really necessary to do so. I was largely just bored while playing, so I was a little insulted that the game offered me a new game plus at the end. Such a thing is not worth my time, even if this game is a part of a series that I like.

What did Nintendo see here to trust Mercury Steam with Metroid?
It's one of the most boring metroidvanias I have ever played. I guess the more technical aspects are all well executed, and it has good art direction (also true for the other Lords of Shadow games), but in terms of mechanics and level design it's all so boring.
They proved that they are very capable developers with two amazing Metroid games, but it was such a strange choice from Nintendo.
