Logging and reviewing this game as I got the plat.
As I mentioned in my review of Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, I have issues getting into a lot of fighting games. Guilty Gear as a whole was one of these games, as I could not get into Xrd despite my attempts. Guilty Gear Strive, through simplifying a lot of my pain points and improving game feel enough to allow me to feel the improvement, while still remaining traditional in some aspects. The roster, especially 3 seasons of DLC in, contains a lot of great characters, new and old, with old characters getting varying levels of rework. Not all the changes are hits, I especially mourn the loss of Dragon Install on Sol, but most of them are fun takes on the characters. While movesets were largely truncated, there's still a nice spectrum of complexity, from the fundamentals based shotos to an entire card game. A few of my personal favorites are Potemkin, Testament, May, and Elphelt. The game isn't totally perfect, the singleplayer offerings are sorely lacking, but it remains a mainstay of the fighting games I play for good reason.

A game of significant potential squandered by its developers. Many don't remember that Xrd -SIGN- also had a lot of issues compared to the later -REV2-, so Strive's issues were acceptable. But years later, the issues persist and have arguably gotten worse. That combined with poorly handled story and characters post-launch, it just leaves me feeling empty and this game has been a significant part of my disillusionment with Fighting Games as a genre.

This game is phenomenal.. It’s a perfext game for inexperienced fighting gamers to truly learn the ropes and discover the one of a kind exhilarating gameplay that fighting games have to offer. It also is the perfect gateway drug into the wild aesthetics and themings of the guilty gear franchise which contain some of the most over the top and striking pieces of visual design I’ve experienced especially when it comes to individual character expression. Most of all though it’s the soundtrack. This game is actually just the perfect music video for easily one of the best rock albums of this decade even if you can’t handle the fighting game genre if you are a fan of music I implore you to listen to some of the character themes from strive as they not only slap as music on their own, they completely embody and complement the characters they’re made for.
