For some reason, I went with the strange decision to start with this game instead of RE7 (mostly because I am a pussy who was too scared to play it and I heard that Village was a bit more action-oriented). Despite that, this still presented itself as a fun, atmospheric, and scary experience all in one.
I mentioned that this game is more action-oriented compared to the previous game, and I can't really validate how true that actually is (I do plan to play RE7 eventually) but it's got a good sense of agency and action without going too far into pure-action territory. There will still be moments where you feel like you're horribly outmatched, you're low on resources, you're caught off guard, and other situations that keep the tension up.
The game also looks great, both graphically and art direction-wise. Every important location has a distinct theme, with an impressive level of detail and fidelity. This combined with the great set-pieces lead to some truly memorable moments.
Speaking of set-pieces, the story and it's accompanying characters and cutscenes are no slouch either. Every boss has their own twisted reasons for their being, and they're all charming in different ways.
Overall, a great time all around, and an easy recommendation if you're a Resident Evil fan, or just interested in the series.

Resident Evil Village is a wild ride that manages to make a fitting sequel, a continuation of a long term series and is welcoming to new players who wish to witness the insane whacky characters of this game.
Village borrows a lot of its elements from the series as a whole whole incorporating other influences, especially in the Dollhouse as it might as well just be the same house from P.T.
It grabs all of these influences and forms them into a really well segmented coherent world that is any speed runners dream.
I think what makes Village so damn fun is that it’s not that intense of a horror game. It really lays itself as a goofy action game that just about midway, you have to take off your pants because you just shit yourself.
It’s charming, it’s rewarding, it opens up a lot of really interesting possibilities for the series to go for next.
I really enjoyed my time with Village. It isn’t perfect but it is extremely fun and that is sometimes all I need in a video game.
Thank you to my amazing partner for braving the game with me the first round and for covering your eyes during most of it ❤

Resident Evil Village is like a wild rollercoaster ride through different horror movie genres! You're this dude Ethan, trying to save your daughter in a creepy Eastern European village. One minute you're sneaking past giant vampires in a spooky castle, the next you're blasting away at werewolves in a snowy field. It's action-packed and way more over-the-top than the previous game, but it still has those tense, jump-out-of-your-seat moments. The only bummer? The story can be a bit confusing, and some areas feel a tad short. Still, if you're looking for a thrilling horror adventure with a good mix of action and scares, Village definitely delivers.
can understand why people have mixed views on this. gameplay was great and while the game could have been outstanding if the plot made more sense and the voice acting were improved, i still think that the game held itself up through the gameplay and atmosphere. the castle is one of my favourite locations in video games ever. castle was genuinely perfect and was by far this best part of the game. definitely not a scary game but intense.
I think this was great, though i heavily disagree with people comparing it to re4 since it does have similar mechanics (like merchant) but i still feel re8 stands out in its own game.
The bosses were done so well, every boss segment had its own lore which made them more interesting. Though i did feel Heisenberg lair was a bit tedious with a few cheap scares and felt too long yet rewarding when you approach and finish his boss fight. Art direction was fantastic, every shift in boss segment was done so well, i really enjoyed house of beneviento, truly emphasised horror.
I also surprisingly liked Chris’s segment, learning about mother Miranda's lore really intrigued me, it was a little action heavy but i felt it make sense lore wise.
Despite all that i didn't feel like it was enough to get more than 4 stars, there were still aspects that were lacking, like the enemies and the puzzles, i just felt they were rather just there and rather repetitive and dull. the lycans always gave a cheap scare, and just felt repetitive to kill.
otherwise i still found village to be a good game

Honestly I don't really have much to say about Resident Evil Village. It's very similar to Resident Evil 4 Remake in it's action-horror approach and that style of gameplay doesn't vibe with me at all. Whereas I was able to enjoy RE4 for the most part due to how masterfully crafted that game was, I don't think the same can be said about Village. Village kind of feels like a bootleg version of Resident Evil 4 Remake as it does a lot of the same things -just worse.
I don't want to harp on the game though, as it's clear that my expectations were way too high coming from Resident Evil 7 -expectations that an action-horror Resident Evil would never be able to match. The story was pretty interesting at the start and I think some of the areas were pretty fun like Castle Dimitrescu or House Beneviento. I also found Ethan's characterization in Village to be a large upgrade over how he was in RE7 so that's also a plus.
Overall Village was a serviceable game. I can't say it was masterful in it's approach like RE4 or that I loved it like any of the other RE games I've played. Village certainly wasn't a bad experience however, and I would definitely recommend it for fans of Resident Evil. This is especially true if you enjoy the action-horror style gameplay that Village contains.

I have replayed several times on PS5 as well as on PSVR2 and it is genuinely such a fun game. I recognize it has some flaws and is not as scary as its predecessor nor is it as good as 4, but it is just so fun to play. I love this title, even if its last quarter feels rushed. IT HAS THE SCARIEST SCENE IN ANY RESIDENT EVIL, THE RESIDENTS WERE EVIL.
