Persona 4 Golden has some really excellent game design coupled with a deplorable amount of padding and some extremely problematic character interactions. Compared to Persona 3 the plot, setting, and social link writing are all massively improved. Despite that, the "pick up artist" and "summer camp" sequences are fatphobic, homophobic, misogynist, and generally just made me cringe. Combat is appropriately tactical, and the persona-series mechanisms are all quite engaging, but the dungeons are all extremely dull mazes with a few floors too many. Overall the game ends up feeling like a real grind, despite having quite a few genuinely evocative moments.

Persona 4 Golden is my personal favourite purse owner game, while Persona 3 has a better story (not by much tbh) and Persona 5 has way better gameplay, Persona 4 Golden still managed to steal my heart. Even if the first 2 hours are boring, the Reaper is downgraded heavily from 3, the dungeon crawling is still bad, Marie is cringe and Teddie is somehow worse than Morgana. This game still has an intriguing story, characters and most importantly a good villain. The biggest issue that I have with 3 and 5 is that the villains are dogshit (except for Nyx, Maruki and maybe Akechi but he's still under investigation for being an Ace Defective). Well, I am happy to say that P4G's villains range from mid to incredible soooo, a bit better? Jokes aside, the killer that you are chasing throughout the game being Adachi was a pretty damn good reveal (even if I had figured it out less than halfway through the game), him being a parallel to yu was pretty great. I guess Izanami was alright too, but I wish that there was more build-up to her. The social links are the best in the series, the music is amazing, the comedy is hilarious, and it has some wholesome moments that are surprisingly well-balanced with emotional scenes that punched me straight in the gut, without it feeling jarring (looking at you Persona 5).

Overall, even if I could kill Teddie one million ways and not be tired of it, even if one pretty big plothole exists and Marie's dungeon is cancer this game still manages to steal my heart like no other game has ever done. 9.5/10

My favourite Persona game, one of my most favourite games ever, if not my number one, and absolutely one of the best JRPGs I've ever played.
I even bought a PSVITA just to play it! heehe, this game really means a lot to me.
I personally think that this game does the best job in keeping us hooked to the story in the saga. Having a decent pacing despite being so long.
The music is super beautiful, charming and memorable, and the story is super good, even if it's goofy at times, the game also has a genuinely funny humour (except when it does terrible jokes that haven't aged well at all for obvious reasons).
It also does a great job in analyzing the psyque of all the characters, which i believe that makes the player forge a better bond with everyone in the group, and talking about the group, this has to be one of the best JRPG groups ever, they all are super realistic and easy to love, back when I played this game I changed from friends groups due to how toxic my previous group was, and this game helped me with my lonelinless at the time <3.
And the villain, who i will not mention, is amazing!
